The Lovington Police Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of our officers, staff, and supporters who participated in this year’s Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run held Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Their dedication, energy, and commitment to supporting Special Olympics athletes helped make this event a success and demonstrated the strong partnership between law enforcement and the communities we serve.

Our participants included:
Deputy Chief Leyva and Commissioner Christina Ramon, Miss Brianna Brock, Miss Amanda Addison, Officer Chris Miller, Officer Ivan Peters, Officer Berenice Vega, Sergeant Teresa Grady and the Grady kids, Jeremiah and Andi.

The Torch Run is more than just a run, it is a movement that promotes inclusion, encouragement, and opportunity for athletes across New Mexico. We are proud to stand beside these incredible athletes and honored to support such an important cause.

Thank you to everyone who ran, biked, donated, cheered, volunteered, and represented the Lovington Police Department with pride. Together, we continue to make a difference.

Sidenote: We still have Special Olympics Merch! Come see us!

Today, on Law Enforcement Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting their communities.

Behind every badge is a commitment to service, sacrifice, and courage. We remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty and recognize the families, friends, and fellow officers who continue to carry their memory forward each day. Their dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

This week, the Lovington Police Department honored Law Enforcement Memorial Week with something special each day for our officers and staff. We are incredibly grateful to our community partners who helped us show appreciation and remembrance throughout the week, including a beautiful grazing table from Peasant Plot Farms and The Royal Chef, sweet treats from Big Bear Ice Cream, delicious pizza from Patio Pizza, and our annual appreciation breakfast from Sara's Place.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this week meaningful. Your support for law enforcement and remembrance of those we have lost means more than words can express.

Thank you to the following for making the above possible for our officers:

American Pump & Supply, Lazy 6, Battle Energy Services, Ponderosa Trucking, Lea County Collision, Nowell Pharmacy, Double R Pump and Supply, D&L Meters, Lea County State Bank, Michael's Pharmacy, Troy Ray Chunn RV, Samberson Cox & McMahon, Lucky Services, Lucky Rental Tool, Lucky Health and Safety, TRM, LLC, First American Bank, Stone Oilfield Services, Forrest Tire, BMB Rental, Lovington Auto, Legendary Services, Lea County Electric, Albertson's Market, Cornerstone, Southwest Arms, Baja Grill, True Brew, Jake's Iron Shack, Lovington Chiropractic, Lock-N-Stitch, Lea County Communications Authority, Options, INC., FOF Foods and Representative Randall Pettigrew.

🚔🦁 BIG NEWS, LOVINGTON! 🦁🚔

The Lovington Police Department is excited to officially welcome Daren the Lion to our community!

Daren recently arrived at LPD and is getting ready for an exciting year ahead as he prepares to visit Lovington schools during the upcoming school year through our D.A.R.E. program and community outreach efforts.

Daren the Lion represents courage, good choices, leadership, kindness, and standing up for what’s right. Our goal is to create positive connections with students while making learning about safety, decision-making, and community engagement fun and memorable.

You’ll soon see Daren attending school visits, community events, special activities, and celebrating student achievements throughout Lovington. We cannot wait for the students to meet him!

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our vision for strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the youth in our community. If you would like Daren to make an appearance at your next event please contact Sergeant Grady at LPD. This is just the beginning for Daren the Lion in Lovington!

Stay tuned for more photos, appearances, and adventures from Daren and the Lovington Police Department! 🖤💙

Last week we had the opportunity to spend some time with the amazing HeadStart classes at Child & Family Services of Lea County here in Lovington and it was definitely a highlight! 📚

Reading with these kids is more than just story time, it’s about building connections, encouraging a love for learning, and showing them that we care about them. Their energy, curiosity, and excitement made it such a rewarding experience for all the Officers involved.

Moments like these remind us how important it is to invest in our youngest community members. A big thank you to the staff at Child & Family Services of Lea County for the invitation and for welcoming us. We’re always proud to be part of opportunities like this!
