THIS IS HEARTBREAKING NEWS. But we don't have to stop caring for the unhoused in our community. Showing up with love and empathy for those who are in need. Keep putting the LOVE in Loveland despite so much hate against our unhoused.

Via an announcement from Homeward Alliance and First Christian Church of Loveland, CO This morning, First Christian Church withdrew its application for a planned unit development for the rezoning of their property at 2000 N Lincoln to be used as a 24/7 resources center and overnight shelter. The action of the church leadership follows a decision by the Loveland City Council on December 17th to table indefinitely a hearing for the application.

Additionally, the Loveland Homelessness Task Force collectively agreed to officially dissolve. The task force felt that the council's decision ran contrary to their previous direction and showed a lack of commitment to pursuing proven homelessness solutions. The task force therefore chose not to continue its efforts under the current framework. While the task force is dissolving, the work to address homelessness in Loveland will continue through independent grassroots efforts, regional partnerships and nonprofit leadership. The need for solutions remains urgent, and organizations and community members committed to addressing homelessness will seek new pathways to support those in need.

We are grateful for your continued support and partnership in this work as we push forward in advocating for sustainable solutions and meaningful progress on homelessness in the Loveland community.

From the First Christian Church of Loveland, CO Sadly, the Loveland City Council did not choose to "discuss zoning" for the property; instead, they opened the meeting by adopting a resolution to table the matter indefinitely.

While the inaction is disappointing, we'll be conferring with our project partners and others in the community who actually want to address the challenges of homelessness.

We are also grateful to our many supporters who showed up and were prepared to speak out.

Please don't lose heart!

The Loveland City Council is set to discuss zoning issues for a proposed homeless shelter that would be established on church property.

Tomorrow is Dec 17th. It's a date that has been burned in my brain for months. City Council will vote on the Planned Unit Development for the proposed 24/7 Resource Center and Shelter with First Christian Church of Loveland, CO. Homeward Alliance and the Loveland Homelessness Task Force have truly found the perfect place for the Resource Center.

It's been heartbreaking to see our most vulnerable in our community treated so badly by our local elected officials, and people in the community.

We are all humans just trying to survive in a cruel capitalistic society. When did we lose our humanity and care for our fellow humans struggling? Once you see the problem, how can you look away?

I'm really proud of the crew at HOUSE in Loveland for all we have tried to do to Help Our Unhoused Strive for Equity. We have pushed back against misinformation, lies and hate. We have presented facts and information to our community, we have reached out and spoken up even when it was maybe a little scary or uncomfortable.

The thing that sticks with me with all that we have done is the gratitude from people in the unhoused community that someone is fighting for them. That someone loves them and thinks they deserve better. That there is hope and possibility for a Resource Center that could get them back on track.

When we were filming Stray by Charlie Parr, I was talking to an unhoused man outside the Loveland Resource Center. He thanked me for fighting for him. I told him not to give up and to keep fighting himself. He said "Really what other choice do I have?"

I hope to see you at City Council tomorrow so we can speak up and do better for everyone in our community!

It's not a pleasant thought, but it could be a reality. What will happen if the Proposed 24/7 Resource Center isn't approved and the SRF permit expires?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

H.O.U.S.E. in Loveland Releases Moving Tribute to Unhoused Community Through Music Video

Loveland, CO – December 11, 2024 – H.O.U.S.E. in Loveland (Helping Our Unhoused Strive for Equity), a local advocacy group, has released a powerful music video aimed at raising awareness about the struggles faced by the unhoused in Loveland. The video, set to the heartfelt song “Stray” by world-renowned musician Charlie Parr, highlights the urgent need for community action and support for the proposed 24/7 resource center and overnight shelter at 2000 N. Lincoln.

The video features members of Loveland’s unhoused community alongside advocates and supporters of the resource center and overnight shelter. Filmed locally, it provides an intimate and poignant portrayal of daily life in Loveland for individuals experiencing homelessness. Charlie Parr’s song “Stray,” which is both inspiring and heartbreaking, serves as the perfect backdrop for this initiative. Parr’s experience as an outreach coordinator for the unhoused lends authenticity and depth to the message.

“This video is not only a call to action; it’s a reminder of the humanity of our unhoused neighbors,” said Danielle Hastings, a member of H.O.U.S.E. in Loveland. “This is an appeal for empathy and understanding, and a demonstration of our community’s potential to come together with proven solutions to address homelessness in Loveland .”

The video, running 4 minutes and 30 seconds, will be presented to the Loveland City Council during their December 17th meeting as part of H.O.U.S.E.’s public comment. Hastings has requested its inclusion in the meeting’s agenda packet and hopes it will remind council members and the community that this issue is about people and doing the right thing by our community to take decisive action in support of the Resource Center and Shelter.

About the Song “Stray”
“Stray” by Charlie Parr is a moving piece that explores themes of neglect, resilience, and the search for empathy in a world often lacking compassion. The song’s lyrics vividly capture the struggles of individuals who feel unseen and abandoned by society:

How can you say he’s gone astray
The days find him alone
Always miles from anywhere
Never finding his way home
The full lyrics are included in the video, serving as a call to action for viewers to reflect on their own perceptions and responsibilities.

A Call for Community Support
H.O.U.S.E. in Loveland is advocating for the approval and funding of a 24/7 Resource Center and Shelter, a facility designed to provide essential services such as shelter, food, medical care, counseling, job assistance, and connections to long-term social support systems. Advocates believe this initiative will not only address immediate needs but also foster a safer, more compassionate Loveland.

“This project is an investment in our community’s future,” said Hastings. “Cities with similar facilities have seen reductions in homelessness and increased community cohesion. We believe Loveland can achieve the same.”

Our City Counselors are ELECTED officials. They were elected to represent the best interests of their constituents and the community as a whole, not to serve their own personal agendas.

NOW is the time to write a letter to your elected officials and let them know that YOU are in support of a 24/7 Resource Center and Shelter in Loveland and ask them to include your letter in the Agenda Packet for the December 17th City Council Meeting.
