Last week, OFW Director Hunt travelled to Melbourne (Narrm), Australia to participate in the biennial convening of the City Hub and Network for Gender Equity (CHANGE) and attend the Women Deliver conference. Many thanks to the Judith Nielson Foundation for making it possible for a representative of each of the cities in CHANGE to attend.

While convening with colleagues from Melbourne, Tokyo, Taipei, Quezon City, Nairobi, Freetown, London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Los Angeles, Director Hunt gained valuable strategies and insights around prevention of gender based violence, engaging men, and supporting caregivers.

Attending Women Deliver, a conference of over 6,000 women, men and gender diverse individuals provided training and best practices for engaging men, supporting caregivers, preventing gender based violence (including tech facilitated abuse) and investing in women leaders. While there, Director Hunt was also able to share our work with OFW Ambassadors and OFW Allies as examples of successful strategies to engage men and women in creating a more equitable community.

In April (Teal Heart) and October (Purple Heart), we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. But we can collectively take action everyday to prevent domestic and sexual violence.

While these crimes affect all communities, women and girls are especially impacted.

Prevention is possible through awareness, public policy, and safer community design.

Help is available, and everyone has a role. Share this message and take action to prevent gender based violence today.

R.I.S.E. Resources in Shawnee to Empower Our Community This event provides an opportunity to connect directly with families and share summer programming, services, and resources that support the whole family- all while building relationships and strengthening community connections.

Join the Mayor’s Office for Women and LOUMED for a night walk in the LOUMED District on April 22, 2026 from 7pm -9pm.

We will meet at LOUMED Commons and explore new developments in the area and discuss ways to increase a sense of safety, usability and belonging in the area. The vast majority of workers and students in the area are women, so we want to center this lived experience to make sure that all feel safe working living and studying in the LOUMED district.

The walk will highlight some of the ways that women and gender diverse individuals may experience public spaces, especially at night. The walk is open to all.
