This past Friday, Los Angeles Mission College hosted student parents from across the Los Angeles Community College District for the Student Parent Symposium!

The symposium featured panel discussions, workshops, and a community resource fair connecting student parents with programs and services to support their educational goals while balancing school and family responsibilities.

We were pleased to welcome LACCD Board Vice President Andra Hoffman, Chancellor Dr. Alberto J. Román, and LAMC President Dr. Armida Ornelas, who delivered opening remarks. Deputy Chancellor Dr. Nicole Albo-Lopez delivered the keynote address, sharing her own experience as a student parent attending community college, including the challenges she faced and the successes she achieved along the way.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize the symposium and to the students and families who joined us!

We’ve partnered with The Power of Sight to bring essential vision care directly to campus! Join us Saturday, October 17, from 9 am–3 pm for a special on-site eye care event designed to help students see clearly and succeed academically. Get a FREE eye exam and prescription glasses!

At this event, you can:
• Receive a comprehensive eye exam from a licensed optometrist
• Get their vision prescription filled on-site
• Leave the same day with a brand-new pair of glasses

All services can be completed in one visit!

Please note: Eye exams and prescription glasses are limited to 200 recipients, with priority given to Los Angeles Mission College students. Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis (walk-ins only), and availability is not guaranteed. Students must present a valid student ID card.

We'll also have free haircuts from local barbers, boxed lunches, a photo booth, voter registration assistance, and LAMC Student Services staff available to help with college applications and enrollment.

Get one-on-one help completing your 2026–2027 FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.

Don’t miss your chance to apply for grants, scholarships and other financial aid—including money you don’t have to pay back!

You may qualify for:

Join us for a rodeo-inspired evening featuring barbecue prepared by our Culinary Arts Institute, a mechanical bull, a DJ, and activities for the entire family.

Kids 12 and under get in free, and we'll have carnival games, a kids’ corner with fun activities, and snacks just for our youngest guests. All children must be accompanied by an adult with a General Admission ticket. Guests ages 13 and older will need a General Admission ticket to enter.
