Then came City Terrace

The community of City Terrace is a later community developed in the mid 1920s, so you won’t see any large Victorian or early 1900s bungalow type houses. You will see Spanish Colonial Revival houses as well as other styles and the synagogues that were changed into churches or community centers in the later years. Terrace was developed first then immediately City Terrace was developed. The land following City Terrace Dr. was developed since it was to house the working folks from jobs the factories would create in the Industrial Tract. During the years when all of the factories were busy it created 1000’s of jobs. The reason why the industrial and residential tracts were developed at the same time was for tax breaks for the developer. More land was purchased by the same developer over the hills on the Southside of City Terrace Dr. I guess it was easier to build on the less hilly side of CT then continue south of the main thoroughfare. This side was named Terrace Park but today it’s called City Terrace. Of course there is history in all communities but being developed recently (I consider it so) will be easier. CT was preplanned in what land it needed and its limitations. Unlike the neighboring communities which began in the mid 1800s and kept of developing outward as land was needed and where records are harder to find or just gone. As time allows I will do some research on this community that I do live in.
