We are back!
For several weeks, Growing Hope Gardens had to close the farm after serious physical assaults, vandalism and threats were made against members of our team. To protect our employees, interns, volunteers and community, we immediately paused all farm access. The individual responsible is now in custody, and it is safe for our community to return.

🌱💚🥒 you can join in to help us catch of farm needs, and learn about food growing. 🥦🌽🥗🥕

Every Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday, 9-11 no signup needed.

We are deeply grateful to reopen the farm and welcome our community back!

During the five-week closure, we lost crops and seedlings and fell behind on essential watering, planting, harvesting and maintenance. We also had to suspend programs that provide food, education and connection for our community.

We are now inviting neighbors, volunteers, organizations and local businesses to help us restore the farm, replant growing areas and restart our programs.

We are sharing this because our community deserves an honest explanation. This reopening is about moving forward together and restoring a place where people grow food, learn, volunteer, connect and care for one another.

By collaborating with Food Forward Inc., FoodCycle LA & Santa Monica Relief & Donation , we distribute over 1500 pounds of food weekly! While folks wait for their turn at our Fee Farmers Market and essential goods donations, we encourage them to harvest, water and plant. Folks share how different plants are used in their culture, friendships are made and healthier food is accessed.

Sound Healer | Therapist in Los Angeles led a wonderful sound bath at the Growing Hope Gardens farm a few days ago that started with a walk from Virginia Park and ended with a a farm walk, a seedlings Indians and some good foods. What a special joy it was to experience this sound bath to the sounds leaves dancing in the winds, bees pollinating nearby flowers and the other sounds neighboring our urban farm. This programming was made possible by a community micro grant from HRC Santa Monica

Summer is arriving at the Farm!

This week we harvested our first slicing cucumbers and our first green beans of the season. Small harvests, but meaningful ones. Every first harvest is a reminder of what consistent care can produce.
Two brothers spent time tending their very first garden patch. They transplanted corn, prepared soil, watered, and took ownership of their space. Watching young gardeners build confidence through hands-on work never gets old.
We also did a little kale maintenance, removing older leaves to improve airflow around the plants. Healthy leaves were chopped and dropped back onto the soil, where they will help feed soil life, retain moisture, and return nutrients to the garden. Diseased leaves should never be used for chop-and-drop and should be removed from the garden.
And hiding behind the kale is a Kabocha squash that is almost ready for harvest.
Thank you to the partners and sponsors who help make this work possible:

We’ve come to understand that the farm is a space for the people and of the people. With this in mind, we just hosted Ivan’s aka ‘s , community event called People, Plants & Paint. Ivan organized this with the support of a grant he won through ‘s Commujity Wellness Micro grant. 💚. Urban agriculture is different than big ag monoculture in that it also serves to grow community and tend to human needs. Humans need common spaces where we can create, uplift ourselves, laugh and connect. Oftentimes this happens on someone’s private property or a public setting. Our farm exists as a different kind of space. A sort of loosely organized communal space where the people’s will can happen without endless bureaucratic hoops. The potluck, paintings and heart connections were in full vibrancy! Our mental health can be improved by seeking moments to let the lights and laughter shine in.

Earth day everyday at the farm! We usually protect what we love and what better way to love our earth than to tend to soils, compost, plants and pollinators. A very special shout out to .foundation for making it all possible.
