May 5th is Children’s Day in Japan, a special day when families celebrate children’s healthy growth and wish for their happiness, strength, and bright future.
This is also one of the most beautiful seasons in Japan. Flowers and blossoms fill the mountains and fields under Satsukibare, the clear blue sky of May. During this festive season, you can often see Koinobori, colorful koi fish windsocks, swimming in the sky throughout Japan.
Koinobori carry the hopes and wishes of parents and families for their children’s healthy and happy growth. The koi fish is known for its energy, strength, and determination, as it can swim upstream through swift currents and even cascades. Because of this, the koi has long been a symbol of courage, perseverance, and the ability to overcome obstacles.
As we celebrate Children’s Day, we honor the joy, growth, and bright spirit of all our children at OCS.
