As part of the City Attorney’s Office internship program, students participate in a mock trial alongside attorneys from our office. The exercise gives students hands-on experience with the legal process while strengthening their advocacy, critical-thinking, and public-speaking skills.

Earlier this week, our office announced that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court dismissed the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case filed in June by GLAZA - the Greater Los Angeles Zoological Association. The City asked the Bankruptcy Court to dismiss GLAZA’s case, arguing that GLAZA filed the bankruptcy case in bad faith by seeking bankruptcy protection to delay the City’s lawsuit currently pending in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The filings in the bankruptcy case revealed that GLAZA paid over a million dollars over the last year or so – at least $748,000 to its president and at least $390,000 to its lawyers – to obstruct the City’s efforts to recover its own funds from GLAZA as the City’s fiduciary.

My office filed a civil action to enforce the City’s Tenant Anti-Harassment Ordinance (TAHO) and the State’s Unfair Competition Law (UCL) against the owner of an eight-unit apartment complex whom we allege violated tenant protections. Among the allegations: Harassing tenants by interrupting their water and waste disposal services, imposing new charges and fees, revoking outdoor storage rights, and discarding tenants’ personal property.

My office joined the 2026 Youth Expo - a free event for young Angelenos providing career guidance, help with resumes, financial literacy and info on apprenticeship programs. From protecting vulnerable kids, to our Prom Closet clothing giveaway to the 66 young people we have welcomed as interns this summer, supporting our youth is one of my priorities.
