Skopje, North Macedonia — The routine at the Skopje Zoo was shattered by a double loss. Riste Trajkovski, a 44-year-old giraffe keeper, died unexpectedly, with no official medical cause reported. Just hours later, Floppy, the giraffe to whom he had dedicated years of work and care, also died. The zoo reported that the animal was suffering from a malignant liver tumor with metastases in the lungs, detected after a veterinary autopsy.

The timing of the events moved workers and visitors because of the strong bond between the two, and they mourned the double loss that resonated among visitors and animal care enthusiasts.
