Join the LWV North & Central San Mateo County in conversation with Lisa Heyamoto of the American Journalism Project and Jerry Lee, publisher of the San Mateo Daily Journal as they explore the critical role local media plays in sustaining a healthy democracy. The loss of local media leads to declines in voter & civic engagement, increases in government waste, and increased public polarization. To learn more and find out what you can do to help, join us virtually on Tuesday, February 17, 12 noon–1:30 p.m. via Zoom. Volunteers from the LWVLAMV met voters where they shop on Oct 26 and answered questions about the County Assessor race, the proposed County 5/8ths of a penny sales tax, and State Proposition 50 - the temporary redrawing of some District maps.

They helped citizens register to vote for the first time, to reregister after moving, and linked people to our website to see the recordings of the candidates forum and Pete Stahl’s pros and cons presentation. They gave kids future voter wristbands while surrounded by giant pumpkins, veggies, flowers, and families and dogs enjoying the day.
