At the June 8, 2026, Board of Aldermen Meeting, Fire Chief James Brinkley had the honor of recognizing several members of the Long View Fire Department for their extraordinary service and commitment to saving lives.
Captain A. Smith, Firefighter KC Gregory, Engineer M. Bondurant, and Firefighter J. Brown were each presented with the Lifesaving Award for their response to a medical emergency involving a one-year-old child in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, the crew immediately initiated CPR and assisted with the child's transport to the hospital. Thanks to their swift actions, professionalism, and dedication, the incident resulted in a positive outcome.
Chief Brinkley also took a moment to recognize a very personal event within the fire department family. He recalled the day he received notification that Long View Firefighter Wright had suffered cardiac arrest. Responding to the scene alongside Lieutenant McCarraher, Chief Brinkley shared how impressed he was by the calm, professionalism, and dedication demonstrated by the firefighters already on scene.
"We had one of our members having a medical emergency and two of our members who had responded, exemplifying everything that a fire department stands for in its mission. Everything was just so calm and professional on that scene," Chief Brinkley stated.
Chief Brinkley then recognized Engineer G. Newton and Lieutenant J. Lakey for their lifesaving actions. In a touching moment, Firefighter Wright was given the honor of presenting each of them with their Lifesaving Awards.
We are incredibly proud of these firefighters and grateful for their commitment to serving others, both in our community and within their own fire department family. Please join us in congratulating these dedicated public servants on this well-deserved recognition.
