Do you support having a school resource officer? If so, why? If not, why?
I would consider an SRO for our school district if the certain criteria and conditions were met prior to hiring one. In an article published by Nicole VonDenBosch (2020) titled Administrator Perceptions of School Resource Officer Effectiveness in a Rural Public School System, she made a few suggestions. SROs should be visible and patrolling school buildings and grounds throughout the day. Mentoring and educating students about safety and violence prevention should be central to their roles and responsibilities. The article goes on to suggest that clear steps and protocols should be established for efficient response and promoting school safety. I agree with what VonDenBosch (2020) is recommending based on her research. Before making a final decision for the school district I would also conduct further research. Additionally, careful consideration would be given to the thoughts and opinions of parents, school faculty, counselors and administration before I would make a final decision how I would vote on the topic.

The Long Prairie Leader did a nice job highlighting all of the School Board Candidates. -Thank You. Here are a few of the questions and my answers.
4. What priorities do you believe the LPGE School Board and district should have going into 2023
1) My priority is being able to balance a school budget. The voters in the LPGE school district voted for a levy increase. This has helped the school district make necessary improvements to buildings and facilities. However, how the budget is managed in the future is a focus for me. It will also be important to work with and have good discussions about the budget with the superintendent. Mr Ludvigson has previous experience managing a school district’s budget. I think that it will be important to draw on his experience and input when making decisions as a school board.
2) The impact of the Global pandemic on students’ academic progress is a national issue. My focus will be on assisting the students in the LPGE school district to reduce the impact of online learning during the pandemic. I would contribute to any research or obtaining access to additional resources to assist students.
3) The overall mental health and well-being of both students and faculty should also be a priority. Since the pandemic there has been a significant increase in people seeking mental health services. Teachers and students’ mental health was impacted by the pandemic and I believe that we are still in a transition period where mental health concerns still exist. I would have a dialogue with teachers and school counselors in the LPGE school district to identify any concerns that they have and assist and support them in accessing resources or developing policies that improve mental health.

My time serving as an Engineer Officer in the MN Army National Guard was a highlight of my life. One of the most valuable lessons I learned was how to lead and how to be lead. I view my leadership style as being a servant leader. Servant leaders lead with empathy, compassion, awareness and foresight. If elected to the LPGE School board these characteristics will be essential in addressing and finding solutions to topics. In addition, I will view myself not just as a community leader but having a responsibility to all of the Faculty and Staff of the LPGE school district to make sound decisions and consider the impact on their lives and the important roles that they have everyday in our schools.

I attended the public forum at the High School last night. One of the biggest questions I was asked was why am I running.

I am running for school board because I enjoy serving my community. I have coached many youth sports and have served on many boards in the community.

We have a diverse community and I am passionate about providing opportunities for growth for all of our community members.
