Congratulations to our Assistant Director for ESOL, Ashley Bunk, on completing the Literacy Assistance Center’s 2026 Literacy & Justice Leadership Institute!

Over the past 10 months, Ashley and a cohort of adult education professionals developed action projects to advance literacy and justice in their programs. Ashley’s project, which she presented at the institute’s culminating event today, focused on creating companion lessons for our ESOL instructors to use alongside our Immigrant Rights Workshops.

We’re proud of her accomplishment and her continued commitment to supporting our learners and instructors.

We were honored to have our ED, Chris Hanway, represent Riis in the pitch round at the Consulates General of Denmark and Norway’s event, Sport Drives Social Change: Nordic & Global Perspectives, yesterday. We were proud to share how Riis uses sports and physical activity to promote health, build confidence, and strengthen community. It was inspiring to connect with orgs from around the world that are using sports as a tool for positive social change.

It was wonderful to celebrate with you all at American Brass on Wednesday, June 3, for our Annual Spring Benefit, where we honored Paula Kirby, Managing Director of Plaxall LICProperties, and Council Member Julie Won for their outstanding contributions to Riis and our community. The event was a great success with delicious food and lively music by Zachary Berns and the zbeez! Until next year🌸
