The Lombard Police Department will be offering free car seat inspections and safety education for parents and caregivers on Saturday, September 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lombard Park District’s Touch-A-Truck event.

Certified Car Seat Safety Technicians will be on site to check that your child’s seat is properly installed and securely fitted. This free service is a great way to ensure your little passengers are safe and give families peace of mind.

🎗️ Save the date and support a great cause! The Lombard Fire Department and Lombard Firefighters Union Local 3009 are once again joining the fight against cancer through their 13th Annual Pink T-Shirt Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Babcock’s Grove House.

Pink T-shirts will be available for $25 each, with proceeds benefiting the Bhorade Cancer Care Center at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and helping support patients receiving cancer care.

🩸 Give back at the We Remember Blood Drive! Community members are invited to donate blood and help support patients in need. The blood drive will be held TODAY, Tuesday, Sept. 8, at two Lombard locations. Donations will be accepted at Yorktown Center, outside the lower-level mall entrance of Von Maur, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St., from 1:30 to 7 p.m.

🚔 Heading out this Labor Day weekend? Make a plan to get home safely.

Through the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Lombard Police Department will have increased traffic enforcement as part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Drive High Get a DUI and Click It or Ticket campaigns. Officers will be watching for impaired driving, seat belt violations, and other dangerous driving behaviors.

If your plans include alcohol or cannabis, arrange for a sober ride before you head out. Buckle up, put the phone away, and help keep Lombard roads safe for everyone this holiday weekend.

The DuPage County Health Department has elevated the risk level for West Nile Virus from low to moderate, prompting a reminder for residents to take proactive steps to protect themselves and their families.

Residents are encouraged to follow the “Drain and Defend” approach:
✔️ Drain any standing water around your home where mosquitoes can breed.
✔️ Defend yourself by using insect repellent and wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors, especially during dawn and dusk.

For additional backyard protection, residents may consider using yard treatment sprays, which are available at most local hardware stores. As a reminder, Village administrative offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day and will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Village emergency services remain available 24/7.

Waste Management garbage and recycling collection will be delayed by one day during the holiday week. Monday’s collection will take place Tuesday, with each remaining collection day also shifting by one day. The final collection of the week will take place Saturday, Sept. 12.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area from noon to 9 p.m. today, Sept 1. Heat index values of 100 to 110 degrees are expected this afternoon, creating an increased risk for heat-related illness. Dangerous heat is also expected Wednesday afternoon, with heat index values again forecast to climb above 100 degrees.

Please take precautions during the heat. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Check on older adults, neighbors and others who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat, and never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
