Commissioners Request Enhanced Ethics for Land Bank, ask for Public Comment

LOGAN, Ohio - The Hocking County Board of Commissioners unveiled a resolution at their May 21, 2026, meeting, requesting an additional set of robust ethics and conflict-of-interest restrictions for the Hocking County Land Bank. While not adopted yet, the Board is opening a two-week public comment period to gather input from Hocking County residents.

The proposed resolution would:
• Prohibit all Hocking County employees and elected officials, and their immediate family members, from purchasing any property owned by the Land Bank while employed by the County.
• Bar elected officials from acquiring any property acquired by the Land Bank during their term in office for seven (7) years after leaving office.
• Extend the prohibitions to any business entity (LLC, corporation, trust, partnership, etc.) in which a prohibited person holds any ownership interest.
• Require every buyer to sign an affidavit confirming they are not a prohibited person and have no intent to transfer the property to a prohibited person. False statements would make the sale null and void.

“Maintaining the highest standards of integrity and public trust is essential for the Land Bank’s success,” said the Commissioners. “These enhancements will help ensure that properties acquired for public benefit are used for legitimate community purposes rather than private gain.”

“The Treasurer’s office and the Land Bank staff are in full support of these additional ethics enhancements,” said Treasurer Blaine Davidson. “The board will bring these up for adoption at the next meeting of the Land Bank.”

Residents are encouraged to review the full proposed resolution, which will be posted on the Commissioner’s website, and submit written comments during the two-week public comment period, which runs from Thursday, May 21, 2026, through Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Comments may be submitted by:
• Email: [email protected]
• Mail: Hocking County Board of Commissioners, 1 East Main Street, Logan, Ohio 43138
• In person: Drop off at the Commissioners’ Office during regular business hours

All comments received will be considered by the Board prior to final action on the resolution.
