Motor City Irish Fest was great! Stocked up on some Irish short bread. Leslie found highland cow cross stitch patterns and we saw not only the fantastic Ironwood but also Ally the Piper! Even with the rain earlier on Sunday the event still drew a crowd.

June 6th, 1944- D-day

Image description:
SUPREME HEADQUARTERS
ALLIED EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of N**i tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the N**i triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

From last night's meeting.

From last night's meeting.

Yesterday I chaired an Economic Development and Strategic Planning Committee meeting. Below is a summary of what was discussed:

▪️Data Centers
This meeting was a follow up to the February 25th meeting where Council sought to issue a moratorium on data centers while the law department worked on ordinance updates to regular data centers which are currently a permitted use in industrial and commercial areas.

City Attorney Eric Goldstein provided Council an update outlining legal concerns related to moratoriums and offered proposed language for an ordinance to specifically define and outline rationale and use

➡️ The committee moved to go forward with the ordinance proposal

He further explained that moratoriums need to be put in place to evaluate the threat to health, safety and wellness of the public and not to 'buy time' to develop ordinances. With that in mind, it was suggested that current zoning laws be updated to make data centers a special use - requiring Council approval.

➡️ The committee moved to go forward with the ordinance suggestion

Both of these actions would go to Planning Commission for review and public hearing before going to City Council for the same.

▪️Car Washes & Gas Stations
Having learned more about the criteria for moratoriums and given both gas stations and car washes currently require a special use waiver. This item remains in committee with no new action.

🗓 Next meeting: Finance & Budget Committee Meeting on Monday, June 8th @ 7pm
