Wildfire smoke has moved into Southeast Michigan, creating dangerous air quality conditions.

🌫️ **Thursday:** Some areas could reach **Hazardous** air quality levels (**AQI 301–500+**). These conditions are rare and can pose serious health risks.

🌡️ Combined with the ongoing excessive heat, the risk increases for everyone—especially:
• Children
• Older adults
• Pregnant women
• Anyone with heart or lung disease

**Protect Yourself:**
🏠 Stay indoors as much as possible.
🚪 Keep windows and doors closed.
❄️ Run your air conditioner on **recirculate** if available.
🌬️ Use an air purifier if you have one.
🏃 Avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
😷 If you must go outside, wear a well-fitting **N95 respirator**.

Over the next month, we'll share key facts and figures that help shed a light on the importance of renewing both local Livonia millage proposals.

In 2025, the Livonia Police Department responded to 55,783 calls for service.

In 2025, Livonia Fire & Rescue responded to 13,093 calls for service, with emergency medical calls accounting for 11,081 of those responses.

A few numbers worth knowing about your Livonia Firefighter/Medics:

- We average 56 hours on duty per week. Neighboring community fire departments range from 42 hours to 56 hours per week depending on their contract.
- We answer about the same number of calls per resident as surrounding communities.
- All 89 of us are cross-trained Firefighter/Medics: licensed paramedics who also handle fire, hazmat, and technical rescue.
- We complete more than 200 hours of required training every year: fireground drills, EMS continuing education, hazmat, driver/operator and more, in between answering calls.

Put simply: a community our size and call volume would, by national standards, run with more people. Livonia gets it done with 21 a day and trains relentlessly to do it well. We are not asking to change that with this renewal, we're asking to keep it from dropping to an unsafe level.

On August 4, 2026, please vote YES to maintain the staffing already in place.
