Members of the Central Arkansas and Hot Springs Flotillas have been out on the water day and night this week conducting training to prepare for the summer season. Those working towards becoming qualified boatcrew members are completing some of the many required tasks and those that are already qualified are taking care of tasks that are done every year to maintain proficiency.

Eighteen Coast Guard Auxiliary members from throughout Arkansas including U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Central Arkansas Flotilla 15-8, USCG Auxiliary, Heartland District, Flotilla 15-07 Hot Springs, AR, and USCG Aux Beaver Lake Flotilla - NW Arkansas gathered in North Little Rock yesterday to prepare for operations this boating season. Coast Guard Active Duty Chief Warrant Officer 3 Dan Garver, who oversees Auxiliary operations training in the U.S. Coast Guard Heartland was present and provided perspective on recent procedural changes. Auxiliary members undergo intensive, regular training to conduct safe and effective activities on the water, air, and land.

Joe Huggins, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission boating safety coordinator retired after over 40 years of service and three members of Division 15 were on hand at his retirement celebration. William Woodell, Immediate Past Flotilla Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Central Arkansas Flotilla 15-8 presented him with a certificate of appreciation for all he has done in promoting boating safety over the course of his career.

Earlier this week eight members of Division 15 worked to rebuild a retaining wall adjacent to the station used by USCG Auxiliary, Heartland District, Flotilla 15-07 Hot Springs, AR on Lake Hamilton. This Sunday members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Central Arkansas Flotilla 15-8 and USCG Auxiliary, Heartland District, Flotilla 15-07 Hot Springs, AR, and the Coast Guard Little Rock recruiting office participated in a cold, but sunny Christmas parade in North Little Rock.

The Change of Watch Party for Division 15 was held last night in Little Rock. Mike Skufka was sworn in for a second-term as Division Commander as were appointed members of the Division staff. LT (JG) John Thigpen spoke on behalf of the Coast Guard's Sector Lower MIssissippi River as did Alan Kitterman (District Captain South) did for the Heartland District.
