Meet Olivia Durrence, our new Orchestra Teacher at LMS!

Olivia is from Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia. She also comes from a GCPS family, with both of her parents having worked for the district. Before joining Lilburn Middle, Olivia taught at Lanier and Brookwood High Schools.

Olivia fell in love with orchestra when she was a middle school student, and she became a music educator because she wants to pass that same love of music on to her own students.

Outside of school, Olivia enjoys distance running, reading, cooking, and watching football and baseball. Her favorite book is “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah, and she enjoys “The Office” and “Beauty and the Beast.” She is a big Georgia Bulldogs fan, especially football and baseball, and also follows the Atlanta Braves.

Hilton Head Island is one of her favorite places to visit, and she would love to travel to France, spending time in Paris and along the coast. If she weren’t teaching orchestra, Olivia says she would be a constitutional lawyer working in Washington, D.C.

Olivia es de Georgia y se graduó de la University of Georgia. También viene de una familia vinculada a GCPS, ya que sus dos padres han trabajado para el distrito. Antes de llegar a Lilburn Middle, Olivia enseñó en Lanier y Brookwood High Schools.

Olivia se enamoró de la orquesta cuando era estudiante de escuela intermedia y eligió la educación musical porque quiere compartir ese mismo amor por la música con sus propios estudiantes.

Fuera de la escuela, disfruta correr largas distancias, leer, cocinar y ver fútbol americano y béisbol. Su libro favorito es “The Nightingale” de Kristin Hannah, y disfruta “The Office” y “Beauty and the Beast.” Es fanática de los Georgia Bulldogs, especialmente del fútbol americano y el béisbol, y también sigue a los Atlanta Braves.

Hilton Head Island es uno de sus lugares favoritos para visitar, y le encantaría viajar a Francia para conocer París y la costa. Si no fuera maestra de orquesta, Olivia dice que sería abogada constitucional en Washington, D.C.

Congratulations to Brianca Noble, Lilburn Middle School’s 2028 Teacher of the Year! 🎉

Ms. Noble is our Gear Up Physical Science teacher, Cheerleading Coach, and one of our PBIS leads. Her impact reaches well beyond the classroom, and we are proud to have her represent Lilburn Middle School as our Teacher of the Year.

The 2028 designation follows the GCPS Teacher of the Year naming cycle, with school honorees selected in advance of the year they represent.

La Sra. Noble es nuestra maestra de Ciencias Físicas de Gear Up, entrenadora de porristas y una de las líderes de PBIS de nuestra escuela. Su impacto va mucho más allá del salón de clases, y estamos orgullosos de que represente a Lilburn Middle School como nuestra Maestra del Año.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins September 15 at Lilburn Middle School!

Throughout the month, students and staff will celebrate with Flag Day, cultural door and mural displays, an art contest, Traditional Dress Day, Sports Jersey Day, heritage spotlight speakers, and more.

A highlight of the month will be our Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Thursday, September 24, from 5:30-7:30 PM, featuring performances by the LMS Band, Chorus, and Orchestra along with music, food, activities, and opportunities to celebrate the cultures represented in our LMS community.

¡El Mes de la Herencia Hispana comienza el 15 de septiembre en Lilburn Middle School!

Durante el mes, los estudiantes y el personal celebrarán con el Día de las Banderas, exhibiciones culturales en puertas y murales, un concurso de arte, el Día de Vestimenta Tradicional, el Día de la Camiseta Deportiva, conferencistas destacados y mucho más.

Meet Dr. Maria Byrd, our new Interrelated Special Education teacher at LMS! Maria is from Columbia, South Carolina, and attended Francis Marion University. Before joining Lilburn Middle, she worked as a postsecondary professor.

Maria chose education because she wants to make an impact on the next generation. She and her husband have three children. Outside of school, she enjoys singing, shopping, watching movies, and spending time with her family. Her favorite book is The Bible, and she enjoys watching just about anything featuring Gordon Ramsay.

Maria is also a fan of USA Track & Field and the Colorado Buffaloes. The beach is one of her favorite places to be, and she would love to visit Japan. If she weren’t an educator, she says she would be a singer.

Her favorite saying is, “The best is yet to come.”

Conozcan a la Dra. Maria Byrd, nuestra nueva maestra de Educación Especial Interrelacionada en LMS. Maria es de Columbia, Carolina del Sur, y estudió en Francis Marion University. Antes de llegar a Lilburn Middle, trabajó como profesora de educación superior.
