Xavier is our Dog of the Week and he’s the cutest pumpkin in the patch!

They say no pumpkin is perfect, but Xavier is making a pretty strong case. This 1-year-old, 55-pound guy came to the shelter as a stray, and he’s more than ready to trade the rough streets for a soft couch, a loving family, and a lifetime supply of belly rubs.

Xavier is a medium/high-energy boy who likes other dogs, enjoys the water, and is ready to start the very best chapter of his life—with you.

Sure, he may have a scar on his face and a quirky little head tilt, but no pumpkin is perfect… you just have to find the one that’s perfect for you.

MS. LADY IS OUR CAT OF THE WEEK!

At just 1 year old, Ms. Lady is a sweet, gentle girl who’s looking for a soft place to land and a family to call her own.

Ms. Lady came to the shelter when her previous owner could no longer afford to care for her. It was a big change for this quiet little lady, but she’s handling it with grace.

She’s a calm, relaxed lap cat who enjoys affection but also appreciates her alone time. She tolerates other cats, but she’s perfectly content being the queen of her own peaceful kingdom. She’s litterbox trained, loves a good lap, and prefers quiet places where she can relax and contemplate important matters… like when you’re going to sit down so she can climb on you.

If your ideal companion is sweet, low-key, cuddly, and just a tiny bit fancy, Ms. Lady would like to formally request an audience.

We had another great week of adoptions! Lots of animals found their new families including Precious, Lysandra, Merle, Tanner, Tulip, Derpy, Stevie, Gargoyle, Shay, and Yappers! We wish all of them happy, healthy lives in their new homes!

Two years ago, a family walked through our shelter doors hoping to find a new cat to become part of their family. They found exactly who they were looking for when they met a cat named Gunner. Today, Gunner is known as Taz, and he isn’t just a former shelter cat—he is a deeply loved member of a family who chose him and gave him his happily ever after.

Today, that same family brought the sweetest note, donations of cat food, and even snacks for our staff. And while those gifts were incredibly thoughtful, it was their words that meant the most. Working in an animal shelter can be a thankless job. It is physically exhausting, emotionally difficult, and filled with moments that stay with you long after you go home. It’s a job not everyone can do—and, truthfully, it’s a job we wish didn’t have to exist at all.

But then there are days like today. Days when we get a little reminder that the animals we cared for, worried about, cleaned up after, loved, and eventually said goodbye to went on to become someone’s whole world. Days when someone takes the time to say, “We see what you do, and it matters.”

To Taz’s family: thank you. Thank you for loving him so well. Thank you for thinking of the animals still waiting for their families. And thank you for reminding our staff that the love we pour into this work doesn’t go unnoticed.

Tanner is our Cat of the Week and since he hasn’t had one single application submitted or zero people coming to see him, he’s decided that he’s starting a gang. Maybe organized crime will get him more attention than making biscuits.
