We “planted new ideas” by handing out flower seeds during yesterday's 4th of July Parade in downtown Lexington. We ran out of the seed packs, but don't worry... we’ll get more!!

Thanks to all who went and especially those in and around the Farmermobile!!

I thank you for your support on May 17th!

Happy Turkey Day post facto, Neighbor!

It’s always a pleasure to greet you on a sunny Friday, especially when it’s to share a sneak peek of renovations being made to the old Shriners Hospital on Richmond Road! Jenny Wurzback of Easterseals Cardinal Hill invited us to see what tremendous progress has been made, and it was a thrill to tour such an enormous gift to Lexington.

Outside, all seems the same—minus a festive layer of snow! Inside, great work is underway and board chair Gregg Thornton’s parlay and vision for their patients is coming together beautifully. Our tour was guided by the esteemed Buddy Hager, who has been with the property for 35 years of its life. To see his excitement in bringing the grand dame back to function is heartening.

This solid building will house adult and child physician-prescribed day care as well as companion services, and this is just some of the programming Easterseals will have available. (Call 859.367.7217 for more information.)

I and the Council were so pleased to help firm up the planning details that would move this project along. I am even more so pleased to see this new beginning take shape. As we have been invited back, we look to keep you up-to-date on the great things to come!

Enjoy your weekend, folks.

My best!

It's a film buff's weekend this Saturday as vintage movie posters go on sale to help reopen the Kentucky Theatre! Just a reminder here that the staff has been sorting through years of blockbuster art, just in time for the gifting season. What an opportunity for nostalgia!

Are you old enough to remember the movie calendars from The Kentucky Theatre? Movie buffs all over town had these taped to the fridge. We used to plan our week around The Kentucky calendar. Well, guess what?! We have a whole pile of these now vintage calendars, and we are going to be selling some of them along with dozens of old movie posters at our POSTERS AND POPCORN SALE. You won't want to miss it. And your purchases will help up reopen The Kentucky!

While I may disagree with Governor Beshear on some issues, here I appreciate his bipartisan approach. There are heroes in both the private and public sectors, and with sage advice I suggest our Council follow the governor's lead in these deliberations. Essential workers are employed without boundaries all over our community. I believe these folks should be awarded that way, too.

I applaud the governor’s leadership; let's see what our Council can do.

I gave blood today, and the investment paid off! Donate today and you'll be investing in the Kentucky Blood Center's 150th Anniversary Blood Drive, with the goal of reaching 150 pints by 6:30 p.m. tonight. There is a critical blood shortage right now, folks. It's easy to give the gift of life--and what a nifty coin!

While I appreciate that the mayor and council want to set aside funds to benefit our city’s front line professionals—and understandably also Lexington’s first responders—many residents across our community lived through the same financial challenges without “premium” pay. Perhaps more thought to that end would be productive.

There are countless local heroes, too—and many have not fared as well through the pandemic crisis as those on the city’s payroll. Health care workers, grocery store employees, and so many other private sector heroes can't be overlooked nor their contributions dismissed.

With so much at stake and so few funds available, let’s serve ALL Lexingtonians who continue to help us all.

The city of Lexington does not know how many employees are vaccinated yet pushed forward with supplemental pay for up to 1,700 employees.
