Early voting opens today for Board of Trustees special election — Registered voters can cast their vote at 605 West Main Street, Lexington, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday–Friday, from June 8–June 18, 2026. The early voting location is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Information on the three candidates is available on the district's website at https://www.lexington1.net/about-lex1/school-board/june-2026-election. The winner of this nonpartisan election will complete the final months of an unexpired term that ends in November 2026.

A random flyer for the United States Military Academy at West Point arrived in the mail, and a girl from Lexington took it seriously.

Alexis Barnes read the flyer, researched the military school and visited it in the summer of 2020 while still a River Bluff High School student. She soon decided this was the route she was going to take and never looked back.
