Barbara Chanei Rogers Former Laurinburg City Council At Large I am Laurinburg’s former City Council at Large member. Stay connected with me & other City programs & events. Barbara lived and worked in Moscow for 2 years.

Barbara Chanei Rogers was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and raised in Laurinburg, North Carolina the birthplace of both her parents Hazel (McQueen) & Attorney Allen Rogers. Barbara graduated from Howard University in 2016 with a BA in Communication and a minor in Swahili. Two summers of her undergraduate career she studied Abroad in Kenya studying the Swahili language and East African Cult

ure. Also while attending Howard she sang with the Howard Gospel Choir of Howard University where she traveled to numerous cities across the United States and countries around the world. After completing her final undergraduate requirements she moved overseas to serve as a Global Mission Fellow under the General Board of Global Ministries an organization out of The United Methodist Church. Barbara was assigned to the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy in Moscow, Russia where she worked as their social programs associate. Her responsibilities included facilitating donations for their clothing center, creating media advertisements of what services the organization offered, attending weekly staff meetings, and planning quarterly community events that were educational and informative for those receiving services from the center. After returning to the United States she joined the Family Business in the capacity of support staff serving as both a receptionist and administrative assistant. Her responsibilities varied as the needs in the office changed. Barbara has covered client correspondence, scheduled appointments, clerical support, and bank transactions when needed. She transitioned from her full-time position at The Rogers Firm after being accepted into The Masters Of Divinity program at Wake Forest University Winston Salem where she relocated. Winston Salem is where she reconnected with the love of her life James H. Bailey II, also a Scotland County Native who is a 4th generation farmer currently rebuilding and rebranding land inherited by his grandfather ( For The Soul Farms, LLC). Together they have one beautiful son James H. Bailey III most affectionately known as “Third.” After an unpredicted pregnancy ending in giving birth 4 weeks early and spending one month in NICU Barbara took a break from her Master's studies and relocated her family to Laurinburg, North Carolina. Returning home has offered her partner and family the blessing of being closer to other family members as well as being closer to meet the demands of building what is now “For The Soul Farms.” Barbara is running on the platform of bringing “Bright ideas that are: Fresh, innovative, and homegrown.” Her desire in this candidacy is to gain the trust of individuals through transparency and authenticity, have critical discussions about what systems are in place that truly serve the community and how to end those systems that do not, and offer a fresh perspective of someone who has seen many places of the world and is also homegrown straight from Scotland county. Her travels have taught her that people have more in common than they have different and it’s the duty of elected officials to promote environments that celebrate those differences as equally as they celebrate our sameness. Elect Barbara Chanei Rogers for City Council at Large.

I woke up this morning with such deep gratitude for those willing to run for an elected office here in the City of Laurinburg.

It takes courage, humility, funding, determination and vulnerability to put your name on signs with belief that you have something that will impact the decision making for your community.

Many will say what can and can’t be done but few will put their name on the line to say they are willing to do it. I celebrate each of you for your will to run and equally celebrate the ones the community have chosen to lead our city.

I implore each of you who voted and those of you who should have and didn’t to let today be the day ALL of our work begins. We have to serve together. We have to challenge together. We have to be aware together. The council is not made up of short order cooks. We are voices of the people from the people for the people. That means speaking up but not without also listening.

To Demarco Allen for Laurinburg City Council District 1 Friends of James McLean & my fellow council member Drew Williamson welcome and welcome back to the fold of service! May you be guided by morality and sound reason for our constituents! Congratulations!
