Las Vegas Las Americas Lions Club, Las Vegas, NV

Las Vegas Las Americas Lions Club, Las Vegas, NV We serve the Las Vegas community through Lions projects. The Las Vegas Las Americas Lions Club was founded on April 1,2000. single parents and veterans.

For example eye clinics, helping seniors, raising money for different organizations like UMC Burn Center and Children’s Heart Foundation, Christmas Children’s party for underprivileged children. As most of you know the Lions International Organization(the parent group) was founded in 1917. It has become an international organization that primarily focuses in the prevention of blindness and helping

those that have vision problems. We also have a offshoot division called Ear of the Lion to help the hearing impaired. Diabetes is also a concern, because diabetes can affect the vision. Besides being dedicated to these causes we also help in the community. For instance Las Americas Lions Club has for the past six years volunteered, to help Rebuilding Together rehab houses of seniors. Our members are of all ages and backgrounds with one goal in mind, SERVE OUR COMMUNITY. Our founder's motto is "WE ARE HERE TO SERVE, NOT TO BE SERVED"
Joins us!! Serve you community and have fun while doing it!!

On July 21st. 3 members of our club , my son Thomas included, visited with the children from Camp Lotz of Fun, up by Mt Potosi, a Lions funded camp. We hosted their Taco Tuesday lunch. Our member Bernardino Martinez donated the cooked meat, Agustin Galvez donated the tortillas and I cooked confetti rice and refried beans. Cristina Sowinski donated the condiments and she and my son did the prepping and assembled the tacos. The kids loved their lunch, the grownups did too. Christina's Senior group from the Flamingo community center made and donated 60 plus blankets to the kids that they could take home. It was a wonderful day!!

The members of our club visited Child Haven this evening. We are adopting 2 rooms of the facility, we will be painting murals in the rooms occupied by 1 to 5 year olds, who by some twist of fate have wound up there. We hope the murals will bring them a little ray of sunshine, and brighten their day when they look at them..

After 9 years, my Lions service partner Carole Lee Skirvin and I, fed the kids at the Salvation Army Say Kids Club for the last time. It has been a labor of love but it was time to look for another service project. The kids made me feel bad, they hugged us and made posters for us and signed them saying how much they loved us. We have seen some of these kids grow up and go off to the Marines. I have asked God to enlighten me and lead me to a project where we can make a difference just like we did here. Any ideas?
