On Friday, May 29th, 2026, around 12pm, SAR personnel aboard AIR1 conducted a rescue operation in the desert area several miles west of Skye Canyon.

The details stated a victim suffered substantial injuries resulting from an off road motorcycle crash, where they were ejected from their bike. The victims riding partner called in but further details were scarce due to poor phone reception.

AIR1 responded and inserted SR7 and SR9. The victim was treated on scene for a possible pelvic fracture but was in good spirits despite the injury. They were loaded into the Rescue litter and extracted via a litter hoist with tagline.

AIR1 transported the victim to a highway landing zone and care was transferred to our partners at . They were subsequently transported to a local hospital for further assessment and treatment.

We in the Air Operations Bureau are always humbled when we are able to honor our fallen with a flyover. We take pride in making these flyovers perfect.

SAR ground crew meticulously ensure the timing is perfect, coordinating with personnel to ensure we hit our marks from the ground.

Pilots and TFOa not only meticulously plan the operation but practice the flight and formation prior to the event.

It’s our small contribution to their memories and for their families, and we take a lot of pride in being part of it.

On Thursday, May 28th, 2026, around 6pm, SAR personnel aboard AIR1 conducted a rescue operation near South Loop on Mt Charleston.

A hiker injured their ankle and became lost, off trail. AIR1 located the victim and inserted two SAR officers to their location.

The victim was treated for their injuries and prepared for extraction. AIR1 returned to the scene and extracted all three via two hoist evolutions, a single and double up hoist.

The victim was transported to the USFS helipad and transferred to ground ambulance.

On Monday, May 25th, 2026, SAR personnel aboard AIR1 conducted a rescue operation on Kraft Mountain in Calico Basin.

At approximately 2pm, two hikers called in to 911 when they became ledged out on Kraft Mountain. Both were suffering from heat exhaustion and were unable to resolve the situation themselves.

Our partners from station 28 responded by ground and were able to access the subjects. One subject received medical care on scene while the other did not require any.

Due to the subjects heat exhaustion, AIR1 was requested as the subject was not able to hike out on their own accord.

AIR1 responded and inserted two SAR officers to the scene. The subject was escorted a short distance to a suitable extraction point. AIR1 extracted the victim and both SAR officers. FD personnel escorted the other victim by ground.

AIR1 proceeded to the BLM helipad where the subject was transferred to ground personnel.

On Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, around 10pm SAR personnel responded to the Cathedral Rock Trailhead to assist Mt Charleston Fire Department personnel with a rescue operation.

The details advised that a female was stuck in a scree field approximately a hundred plus feet above the trail after walking off during a domestic disturbance with their significant other.

personnel began the hike in and made verbal contact with the female from the trail at which point they requested SAR assistance due to the long low angle rope operation that the eh anticipated.

Four SAR officers responded and hiked in. They made contact with personnel and assisted in the rope operation for the last approximately 100’ through the scree field. It was determined she had a knee injury which was treated by Fire Personnel prior to SAR arrival.

The subject was loaded into a litter and all personnel hiked her down to the trailhead and awaiting ground ambulance.

AIR1 training!

As we welcome our newest member to the team, the new SR9 and the next officer on the eligibility list getting their initial Rescue Specialist training today All the while, SR8 progresses through Hoist Operator training.

It’s been a busy year! We’re on par to set a record for the last several years for operations this year. Plus a lot of great training and new officers joining the team.

Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

We at LVMPD Search and Rescue want to take a moment to remember all of our fallen brothers and sisters. Not just here at the LVMPD but also across the nation.

MAY MOUNTAIN RESCUE TRAINING

This month for training the team conducted training near Mummy’s Toe in Mt Charleston.

The team hiked in several miles with full kit and additional rescue equipment. Once at the training location they practiced every mountain rescue skill (rappelling, ascending, lowering and raising systems, and knot passes on each)

On the hike out the team was surprised with a scenario where they had to conduct a simulated rescue operation.

It’s been a busy month already for SAR. Lots of training and missions we haven’t been able to post. Thanks for the continued support! We’re excited to share as much of our training and operations with you as we can!

What a great week of training with !

Lots of flying and hoisting with their amazing instruction for our two newest hoist operators for the first two days of training, working open field and confined space helicopter rescue tactics.

Day 3 focused on rescue swimmer skills in the pool followed by some classroom instruction.

Day 4 and 5 were out at Lake Mead conducting open water hoisting and rescue swimmer tactics both at day and night.

Day 6 we were back at it with flights working on litter hoist operations.

All in all, our team had a blast getting amazing training from SR3 Rescue concepts

On Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, around 8am, SAR personnel aboard AIR1 conducted a rescue operation in Black Velvet Canyon.

Three climbers became lost on the descent and eventually ledged out the night prior. They were uninjured and had proper equipment but were unable to resolve the situation even with phone direction from one of the SAR officers.

A single SAR officer was inserted via hoist to the scene. All three were assessed and in good physical condition. They were all packaged into Helitack Hotseats. AIR1 returned and extracted all three plus the SAR officer via hoist. They were transported to the Late Night Trailhead and transferred to ground police personnel.
