The Police/Security Department is a full-service police agency, open 24 hours daily. It is not simply a security force; rather, it is similar to a municipal police department for a small city. The primary functions of the department are keeping the peace, law enforcement, criminal investigations, and emergency response. Integral to these are the crime prevention and public education programs that

the department sponsors, such as:

R**e awareness and prevention
Crime prevention and reduction
Alcohol and drug awareness
Operation identification
Traffic and personal safety

In addition, the Police/Security Department works with other departments on campus to design specific training programs based on the needs of each area. The Highlands Police/Security Services publish its crime statistics yearly in accordance with the United States Department of Education and Clery Act of 1990. DISCLAIMER

Facilities is still painting with the weather cooperating so the road is still closed. We will keep you informed when it opens.

East Bound National Avenue will be blocked off till 10:00AM due to facilities painting the curbs. West Bound is still open to traffic.

This week we honor our dispatchers by celebrating . Our department has 5 certified dispatchers taking calls for service in addition our admin assistant will help take calls as well. Thank you for your service to our department and the New Mexico Highlands University campus community.

As Campus will be closed for Spring Recess tomorrow April 7, 2023, out Administration Office and Records department will be closed as well. As always Patrol and Communications will be available 24/7 taking calls for service. Regular hours will resume on Monday April 10,2023! Have a safe Holiday!

From Campus Global:
Campus Police has received numerous complaints about students occupying parking space at the El Centro Clinic across the street from Wilson Complex.

As a reminder, NMHU students, staff, and faculty do not have parking privileges in this lot between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Help NMHU be good neighbors with the El Centro Clinic and avoid parking there during this time. The El Centro Clinic is able to have vehicles towed at their owner's expense.

Today, we at the New Mexico Highlands University Police Department would like to honor Senior Police Officer Robert Duran of the Santa Fe Police Department and Retired Engineer and local Frank Lovato of the City of Las Vegas Fire Department. Both were tragically killed in a car crash on I-25 March 02,2022.

We’re going to try something different. Each month we are going to try and post our calls for service for each month, highlighting key incidents. Here at NMHU Campus Police our calls for service are classified for all sorts of calls such as routine security checks, 911 hangs up, accidents, traffic stops, trainings etc.

With that being said here are the stats for January 2023.
