GVFD members had a full day of community outreach . Supporting Las Vegas Little league during their opening ceremony and Luna Community College“the fire circle” ,discussing the current San Miguel County burn ban,fire mitigation, ways the community can assist local volunteer fire departments and rural addressing.

🚒 Fire Response Update 🚒

On Sunday, February 1, 2026, at approximately 1320 hours, the Gallinas Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 157 El Llano Road regarding a reported pasture fire.

Upon arrival, units observed heavy smoke and active flames. The Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department, New Mexico State Forestry, and the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office assisted on this incident.

Due to the rapid response of local volunteer firefighters, the fire was quickly contained. The burn area was estimated at approximately six acres.

If you are interested in serving your community, contact your local volunteer fire department about joining. Volunteer departments rely on community support and participation.

Sapello-Rociada-San Ignacio Volunteer Fire Company and Gallinas Volunteer Fire department reaching out to Robertson High School students during their Wellness Wednesday event .This is a great opportunity for highschool students to understand the roles ,responsibilities,and great satisfaction the firefighting career brings.
