What a special tribute. She didn't know we were coming and was so surprised! She was so sweet and asked each of us where we worked. She even put on her cape and cap! Family was there to celebrate with us. What a great activity for Nurses Week!

To the nurse I was on graduation day: I’m sorry I didn't tell you how heavy the lamp would get. 🎓🕯️

I see you reciting those holy words. "I will serve." You mean it with every fiber of your soul.

But I wish I could whisper a different oath in your ear. One that says:

It’s okay to cry behind the curtain.

It’s okay to walk away when the burden is too heavy.

It’s okay to admit that you aren't "fine."

We spend our lives fighting for the survival of strangers, yet we let our own spirits wither under the pressure. We feel like failures when we can't fix the unfixable.

But you aren't a failure. You’re a human being in a superhero costume.

May you always remember: The most important life you will ever save is your own.

Today we honor Sue Smelker, a graduate of Henry Ford Hospital’s School of Nursing,
she spent many years serving as a Registered Nurse, first in the hospital setting and then for
over twenty years in the specialty field of Allergy and Immunology.

We were privileged to honor Donna Joan Baker today. Donna Baker graduated from Mercy School of Nursing. She married & had 10 children. When they were in their teens, Donna went to work afternoon shift at Provincial House West. She was asked to become the Director of Nursing & eventually became a Vice President in the Beverly Corporation that owned Provincial House West. Donna was so humble her family didn't even know until they read it in the newspaper. May you RIP, Donna. Your colleagues will take it from here.
