๐พ Carbon County Friends of Animals Presentation to Lansford Borough Council
Pamela, along with fellow board member Rachel and Rachelโs cat, Bravo, represented the Carbon County Friends of Animals (CCFOA) Cat Shelter in Jim Thorpe at last nightโs Borough Council meeting.
Pam explained that Code Enforcement Officer Shane Monk contacted CCFOA last spring for assistance with Lansfordโs stray and feral cat population. Working with local residents, CCFOA:
* Trapped and spayed/neutered 37 cats.
* Rescued 2 litters of kittens (10 kittens).
* Provided medical treatment for 4 injured or sick cats.
* Took 18 cats into shelters, where they have since been adopted into homes.
Pam also demonstrated how quickly an unfixed cat population can grow, explaining that one unspayed female cat and her offspring can result in 84 cats within one year, highlighting the importance of Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) programs.
She discussed a potential partnership with No Nonsense Neutering, where trapped cats could be spayed or neutered for a $15 resident copay, with the Borough contributing the remaining $25. Pam offered to help establish the program and teach residents humane trapping methods. CCFOA also has traps available to loan with a refundable security deposit.
Pam concluded by noting that without action, Lansford could eventually face thousands of stray and feral cats roaming the community.
