The Lancaster City Schools Board of Education has announced the appointment of Steve Spangler as the district’s next superintendent.
Spangler will begin serving Lancaster City Schools during the 2026-27 school year as human resources director and assistant superintendent before officially assuming the role of superintendent Jan. 1, 2027.
Spangler currently serves as assistant superintendent for Bloom-Carroll Local School District, where he oversees educational services and various district operations, including human resources, transportation, food service, Title IX and threat assessment. He also leads staff recruitment and onboarding.
An experienced leader with Lancaster City Schools (LCS), Spangler previously served as director of secondary education from 2021 to 2024, overseeing curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development for grades 6-12. During his tenure, the district expanded in-house College Credit Plus offerings by 400 percent and developed multiple pre-apprenticeship pathways and workforce partnerships through the Fairfield County Business Advisory Council.
Prior to that role, Spangler served as associate principal at Lancaster High School, where he helped establish pre-apprenticeship programs through the Fairfield County Workforce Center, implemented Project Lead the Way (PLTW) engineering and biomedical science programs, and helped Lancaster High School achieve PLTW Distinguished High School status.
Spangler’s career with Lancaster City Schools also includes service as dean of students, special education supervisor, intervention specialist and coach. In addition to his LCS leadership experience, he served as special education director for Northern Local Schools.
