Curious about how the Lakewood Police Department operates?

Now is your chance to get a firsthand look.

Registration is open for the Lakewood Citizens Academy, an annual program hosted by the Lakewood Police Department. It offers a unique behind-the-scenes view of law enforcement operations.

Participants meet weekly for sessions led by officers, detectives, and command staff. Topics include patrol operations, criminal investigations, the K9 unit, behavioral health response, use of force, and more. Attendees also take part in select interactive trainings, including a slow-speed emergency vehicle operations course and virtual reality scenarios.

Space is limited and spots fill quickly. Apply early to secure your place: https://cityoflakewood.us/citizensacademy/

Gravelly Lake Drive will be closed beginning 6:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30 through 5:00 a.m., Monday, June 1 as WSDOT makes progress on the Gravelly Lake Drive–Thorne Lane connection project.

This closure affects southbound lanes between Nyanza Road and I-5. Drivers heading to the freeway will be detoured to the 112th & Bridgeport intersection to access I-5.

Why the closure? Crews need to install approximately 21 soldier piles, which will allow them to safely finish the remaining improvements off the roadway.

Thanks for your patience as this important connection takes shape. We appreciate you, Lakewood!

An inspiring day at JBLM! 🔥💙

We were proud to take part in the Special Olympics Torch Run, joining athletes, Olympia PD, and the JBLM “Fighting Dragons” on a 1.5 mile run across base.

Watching Special Olympics athletes lead the way, showing determination, courage, and heart, reminds us why this tradition is so meaningful. Lakewood Police Chief Smith accepted the torch at the finish, and now it continues on to Cheney Stadium for the games!

We are proud to support this event every year, and even prouder of the athletes who inspire our whole community.🌟

We had a great time taking part in Idlewild Elementary PTA auction tradition! 🚓

Every year, one lucky student gets a special ride to school with Lakewood Police officers. PLUS, donuts for their whole class (because of course 🍩😉).

This is one of our favorite ways to connect with students and the community. Thank you to the Idlewild Elementary PTA for including us in this great tradition! 💙

Today we recognize three of our officers, one retired, and two survivors who rode in the Police Unity Tour (PUT) this week. The PUT is a 300 mile bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington, DC that culminates at the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall. Hundreds of officers from around the world ride in recognition of fallen officers. Our officers always ride in rememberance of our Fallen Four and this year also highlighted WSP Trooper Gutig. This is a tradition we have carried on since our first ride in 2010. On this Peace Officers Memorial Day, please join us in celebrating the lives and memories of all those lost in the line of duty. "We Ride for those Who Died".
