As noted by Supervisor Chris Barnett in last Monday’s Board Meeting, this month, we are honoring some “absolute legends”: Outgoing Trustee Brian Birney, Outgoing Treasurer Kim Urbanowski, and Outgoing Clerk Penny Shults.

BRIAN BIRNEY:
For the past eight years, Brian Birney served as our Orion Township Fire Department and Oakland County Sheriff's Office liaison. A Marine Corps veteran himself, Brian has given tremendously to our veterans, not only through the Orion Veterans Memorial, but through his advocacy of our veteran community.

KIM URBANOWSKI:
As Director of the Chamber, a small business owner, and a veteran, outgoing Treasurer, Kim Urbanowski, in Supervisor Barnett’s words, “is Orion Township.” While she’ll retire as Treasurer after four honorable years, she’ll remain on our planning commission and continue to lead our America in Bloom efforts, including our Orion in Bloom non-profit.

PENNY SHULTS:
Outgoing Clerk, Penny Shults has given 35 years of her life to our community, serving in our Equalization and Assessing Departments as well as the Clerk’s Office. She’s served at least a cycle on every board we have and worked passionately and prolifically on election efforts and for our faith-based commission. Penny’s mission was to make sure residents knew where to go for help; “to help those who are stuck, get unstuck," Supervisor Barnett said, "always pointing them in the right direction with a beaming smile."

Thank you, Brian, Kim, and Penny for your outstanding service, dedication, and leadership in our community.

We understand that many of you are looking for ways to personally support friends or community members affected by last week's tragic explosion at Keatington. In light of this, we recognize that several crowdfunding links have emerged to assist those in need. While you are welcome to choose any method that feels right for you, we wholeheartedly recommend .noc as a trusted charity for both individual and collective donations for our Keatington community. If you would like your donation applied to someone specific, please indicate their name online or on the envelope of any gifts submitted via drop-off box.
