CITY OF LAKE MILLS SPRING CLEAN-UP 2026

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS:
All appliances and brown goods (electronics) need to have a sticker on them. Each garbage paying household will be given two free stickers for appliances or brown goods, except for monitors and TVs. Computer monitors and televisions will require a special $100 sticker each. Stickers are only available at City Hall at 200 North 1st Ave W during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. If you plan to bring appliances or brown goods to the disposal site, you need to get stickers ahead of time.
• Additional stickers will cost $15.00 each
• Only empty, major appliances will be picked up at the curb on regular garbage pickup day
• Please have them at the curb by 7:00 AM of your regular garbage day

No small items will be picked up at the curb. Anything at the curb, other than major appliances, must be in the City issued garbage container.

We do NOT accept oil, paint, batteries, household chemicals, cleaners, or tires.

ITEMS NEED TO BE BROUGHT TO 308 SOUTH 4th AVENUE WEST:
SATURDAY, MAY 9: 7 AM - 5 PM (OR UNTIL FULL)
SUNDAY, MAY 10: CLOSED
MONDAY, MAY 11-WEDNESDAY, MAY 13: 7 AM - 7 PM

Call City Hall at 592-3251, or the Director of Public Works at 592-2441, prior to May 9th to make arrangements for pick up if unable to haul large items to the disposal site.

Leaves and brush may also be brought to the disposal site. Do not leave leaf bags or containers. If the gate is locked, you must wait until the next working day to unload. NO EXCEPTIONS!

The City of Lake Mills will be flushing fire hydrants from April 20th - May 2nd. You may experience temporary pressure loss while they are flushing in your area. The water is safe to drink. Thank you for you cooperation.

Good reminder with the active Tornado Watch.

The severe weather siren will activate for tornado warnings and/or extreme winds. If you do not feel safe in your home, the Tornado Safe Room on the southwest side of the school will be open as an option. If you are in the downtown area and unable to get to the school, the west entrance of the Lower-Level of the Community Center located at 227 West Main Street is open as an alternative.

CITY OF LAKE MILLS OUTDOOR SIREN USE POLICY
DEFINITIONS:
• Trained spotter: Police, Fire, Winnebago County Emergency Management who have attended spotter training hosted by their agency.
• NWS: National Weather Service
• PSAP: Public Safety Answering Point (Winnebago County Emergency Communications located in Forest City, Iowa)

PROCEDURES:
Severe Weather Siren Activation: These two events will trigger siren activation for severe weather.
• Tornadoes (NWS tornado warning and/or trained spotter reported)
• Extreme Winds (NWS measured or imminent at or above 70 MPH and/or reports of whole trees being blown down)

Sirens will sound in a cycle of approximately 3-4 minutes. Additional activations may occur depending on ongoing threats and/or multiple severe weather threats (example: multiple tornado events). The outdoor siren will NOT provide an “all clear” activation.

Peterson Sanitation will be operating Monday, March 16th, however routes will start 2 hours late due to weather conditions.

Thompson Sanitation will not be running today due to weather and road conditions. All routes will be pushed back one day this week.

The City of Lake Mills will be changing electric meters for all customers starting March 10th. Installation will continue until all meters have been replaced. Customers who require special arrangements during the meter replacement are encouraged to call 641-592-2441, to make an appointment during business hours 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. The City will make every effort to accommodate individual needs when possible. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

📢 📢 The City of Lake Mills will be utilizing the Alert Iowa notification system to inform the residents when a snow ban will be in effect. This is a free service provided by Winnebago County and the State of Iowa. In the event of an emergency, snow ban, or other event where notification is needed a notification will be sent out via text message, voice call, and/or email.
