A Better Way LFP

Lake Forest Park needs safer streets and park improvements. Tell your Council we need a smarter approach. Vote NO on Prop 1.

But there are better ways to fund them than a permanent 61% property tax increase—the largest proposed increase in our history. Prop 1 is permanent: the owner of an average home would pay $360 or more per year in property taxes, forever. Prop 1 is regressive: it disproportionately harms seniors and working-class families. LFP would become one of the most heavily taxed cities in the North end. Prop

1 is inflexible: as our community’s needs evolve, it can’t be spent on emerging issues such as community services, homelessness, crime, or infrastructure improvements. Prop 1 is restricted: no community input or approval is required for where, when, how much, or which projects are done. Prop 1 encourages more debt: it enables the Council to borrow significant additional funds, encumbering future generations, without a public vote. There is a better way to fund these improvements using grants, bonds, or limited term levies, in the same or less time, without a permanent 61% tax increase, loss of public control, ill-defined scope and costs, and constraints on future needs.
