Potential Winter Storm Friday - Sunday for New Mexico..

Winter Storm Watch issued for much of eastern New Mexico and the Santa Fe area. This also includes Hobbs and Carlsbad.

What does this mean? Just means we are watching the potential for some heavy snow for parts of the state.

Is it possible Albuquerque gets several inches of snow?

Yes, it is. Depending on how much moisture will be in place with the cold air makes a big difference..

On the low end.. around 0.5” of the Albuquerque metro.. high end around 8”. That’s how wide the range is..

Timing.. Could start as rain and sleet for most areas switching to snow through the day Friday as colder air begins to filter in..

Everyone sees much colder air by Sunday and Monday with some harsh wind chills when you wake those mornings. I’m including that in a graphic from the NWS Albuquerque below.

Is this all set in stone? Nope and things could change.. Just prepare for some travel disruptions through the weekend into early next week..

⚠️❄️List below. It's better to be overprepared than be caught unprepared.

Here's a basic list for you and your families you need to check on:

•Refill prescription medications and over the counter ones.
•Restock first aid supplies.
•Stock up on food and jugs of drinking water, especially shelf-stable food.
•Restock toiletries.
•Restock housewares.
•Wrap outside faucets.
•Let inside faucets run.
•Put a space heater in your well house.
•Fill tubs up with water to use in case of plumbing issues.
•Put a space heater with your animals and give them plenty of blankets, food, and heated water.
•Bring your pets inside.
•Bring enough firewood inside to last many days.
•Get a heavy winter coat, heavy duty, winter gloves, boots with a grippy bottom, a thick scarf, and a thick, quality winter hat, in case you absolutely need to address anything outside.
•Maintenance your vehicle.
•Wash dishes and get your laundry done.
•Don't drive when it gets bad. If it's a life or death emergency, call 911.

So’sok’muy sin’muy ah’mung’em mong’vas’tiq pu’piw ha’lai’yani

(For all the people, let there be prosperity & happiness - Hopi)

During this time of the year, we look forward and prepare for the upcoming year. It is also a time to reflect on the past year and renew our commitment & responsibilities to our families, communities and people.

As we close another year and enter a season rooted in reflection, gratitude, and togetherness, we extend our sincere thanks to our tenants, homebuyers, LHDME Board members, POL Tribal Council, the POL communities, our partners, and advocates who support and encourage us in providing homes, housing opportunities and related services to the POL communities.

This past year has not been without its challenges. Tribal housing programs have had to navigate uncertainty, limited resources, and systemic barriers that continue to keep us trying to maximize our funds and think outside the box.

These challenges reaffirm who we are, we are strong, resilient communities, who have traditional and cultural responsibilities to serve our people and to advocate for systems that reflect our values, sovereignty, and long-term prosperity.

A reminder that our homes are more than a physical structure. It is the foundation of culture, language, and safety. It is where roles and responsibilities are learned, traditions are carried forward, language taught, and opportunity begins.

We wish you all peace, physical and mental wellness this holiday season. May the year ahead bring hope, happiness, success, blessings and good health to you and your families.

Kwa’kwah/Dawa’eh (Thank you) for being a part of our progress and successes and for helping to make a difference in our communities. Merry Christmas 🎅🎄 and Happy New Year!
