Posted • Let’s talk upgrades—and where your money actually delivers real performance value.
Top 3 upgrades if you’re running a mid-tier EMTB or analog MTB:
1. Wheelset and Tire Combo
2. Brakeset
3. Suspension
Everything else won’t give you the same on-trail return for the cash.
A properly spec’d wheelset and tire combo is the best starting point. Whether hand-laced or complete, alloy or carbon, you’ll immediately feel the difference in how the bike tracks, grips, and carries speed.
Brakes come next. Speed management is everything, especially in SoCal’s low-traction terrain. Power and lever feel can be balanced perfectly—plenty of great options out there depending on what you like.
Suspension is a big one. A lot of riders have never had a proper baseline setup for sag, rebound, and compression. Before spending money on upgrades, a Static Suspension Setup makes a huge difference. From there, moving into top-tier suspension—air or coil—adds confidence, traction, and control.
When planning upgrades, I look at the whole picture: where you ride, how you ride, where you’re headed, and what your budget allows. The goal is a setup that delivers nothing but confidence and stoke every time you’re on the trail.
