Well, the results are in.

The vote was close, but it did not go my way. I lost by just 5 votes, 30–25.

Before this election, I prayed about it and asked for peace with whatever the outcome would be. Because of that, I can honestly say I am okay. Of course I’m disappointed, but I trust that things happen for a reason and that leadership is ultimately about service, not titles.

One thing I am especially proud of is that I put myself out there. Anyone who knows me knows that isn’t something I would have imagined doing a few years ago. Running for President pushed me outside my comfort zone, and regardless of the outcome, I am grateful that I took the chance. I met new people, had meaningful conversations, and learned a lot about myself along the way.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who supported me, encouraged me, asked questions, shared ideas, and placed their trust in me throughout this campaign. The conversations I had over the last few months reminded me how passionate our members are about the future of Chinook.

Congratulations to DJ on his election as President. Chinook will be in good hands, and I look forward to working alongside him and the rest of the Executive Board as we continue advocating for our members, supporting our locals, bargaining strong contracts, and standing up for public education and working families.

This campaign was never about me. It was about making a positive impact, bringing new ideas to the table, and serving our members. That commitment hasn’t changed. I will continue that work as a member of the Executive Board and as a proud union member.

Thank you again for your support, your friendship, and your belief in me. The work continues, and I’m not going anywhere

As voting approaches, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has taken the time to connect with me, ask questions, share concerns, and have conversations about the future of Chinook UniServ Council.

I am asking for your vote for Chinook UniServ Council President.

I have proudly been a union member since 2008, first with OPEIU and now with NTAOTE. For more than 20 years as an Office Professional, including the last 11 years in public education, I have built my career on organization, accountability, responsiveness, and follow-through. I understand the importance of strong representation, clear communication, transparency, and making sure every member feels heard and valued.

I’m not running for a title. I actually have an amazing position with the district that I love. I am running because I believe I can make a positive impact and meet the moment we are in by bringing new ideas to Chinook. I’m running because I care deeply about our union, our members, and the work we do every day to support students, staff, and each other.

Chinook has a strong history of advocating for members, bargaining strong contracts, and standing up for public education and labor rights. That work must continue. As President, Chinook will continue to bargain amazing contracts and stay focused on the basics: being unapologetically pro-education and pro-labor while ensuring members feel supported, informed, and represented.

If elected, I will:
• Advocate for all member groups
• Improve communication and member engagement
• Focus on transparency and accountability
• Bring strong organization and follow-through to council leadership
• Continue building member strength and solidarity

Your voice matters. Your vote matters.

I would truly appreciate your support and your vote for Chinook UniServ Council President.

In solidarity,
Katrina Serrano

On May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education case, rejecting the “separate but equal” doctrine that allowed school segregation. In the ruling, the court found that segregation violated students’ 14th Amendment rights to equal protection under the law. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3Yyq6hz
