If anyone knows anything about the city of LaPorte and the way Mayor Dermody operates, none of this will be a shock to you.

I full heartedly believe HB1333(co-authored by incumbent of HD20 Jim Pressel), was designed specifically for this project. Luckily we caused enough outcry that they essentially killed the bill, saying they didn't have enough time to fix it.

That legislation would've eliminated the need to have a public hearing and public comment on the rezoning of Agricultural land for any type of land development, so long as the soil class was a level 4 or below; anybody could buy it up and develop it with WHATEVER they pleased.

Experts testified at the state house that soil classes 4 and 5 are easily recultivatable.

The county residents have been alerting folks for MONTHS(before the last legislative session even started), that there were people surveying this land and taking soil samples.

Dermody KNEW there wouldn't be alot of support for this from the ACTUAL RESIDENTS it will effect. So he paid attention to what people were most upset about when it came to data centers locally. And after Michigan City gave up their leveraging power too fast to procure a labor agreement, he said 'ooooh, we can win the public by using a local union for some of the work'.

I support unions and unionized labor and have spent many hours on the picket line with our nipsco union members.

This wasn't about union labor, this was about big money controlling the narrative. Giving up Agricultural land and making contingency deals that these landowners couldn't refuse; in order to meet the 'super voluntary' threshold to be annexed into city limits. So then they can do what they want and they won't have to worry about the county's data center ordinance interfering when it comes into place.

Sending a huge thank you to the Central Midwest Carpenters for hosting us candidates from Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties last week.

So many candidates! It was a long/late night for the hosts and the brothers and sisters that showed up to listen, and I am truly grateful to have gotten to be a part of it all.

The welcoming atmosphere and hospitality given was like no other.

If you are thinking of switching careers or joining a union please check them out, they will make you feel right at home and in turn you'll gain a second family.

They're hosting several career exploration nights this month, I'll post details in the comments.

I hope you all will join me, sign this petition, and stand in solidarity with ALL the union workers fighting for a fair contract.

Each and every one of us deserve fair compensation for our labor, safe working conditions, and the right to collectively bargain.

Unions fight for and want us ALL to have these rights. It's BEYOND TIME to send a strong message that we will NOT normalize corporate greed and/or union busting.

Repealing right to work laws, strengthening our unions, and forming new unions across every industry; is not out of reach if we all step up and demand better!

NIPSCO customers and its utility workers want the same thing: reliable service, safe utilities, and a strong local community. Unfortunately, NIPSCO is trying to take away rights and jobs from union workers. Tell NIPSCO our community deserves affordable energy, safe utilities, and good local jobs!
