I encourage you to read this article then read it again. Corruption, lack of accountability and transparency have become such a way of business in Kokomo that the Mayor is talking about the undocumented workers in town at the hotel and housing projects instead of using union workers is saving money and better for the economy so he’s been told. Take note that he was notified of this at the beginning of 2026 as well as the Kokomo Common Council by the Carpenters Union. So do tell, who approved these contractors for these projects that allegedly use undocumented workers and pay them under the table ??

Today is a day I’m reminded why I do what I do !
Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day to my Mom!
She lost her life at age 36 to an aggressive breast cancer caused from exposure to trichloroethylene. She was one of 12 women in 1974, under the age of 40 in plant 8 at Delco/GM Kokomo that died from this.
I am her voice and the voice for all the other victims of corporate greed, backroom deals, lack of transparency and accountability among our elected officials. This contamination has spread beyond the factories and affects our communities and neighborhoods in the form of unremediated plumes and contamination. Industrial growth in a town that continues the practice of allowing corporate greed to continue to dominate and contaminate us by looking the other way, will get a big, loud NO vote from me. Don’t ever underestimate my voice as one person or my ability to expose those who participate and support this. No one should ever have to honor their mother this way for these reasons !

Let me introduce you to my favorite Democrat. My dad, Jerry. He took voting seriously and we would hear him say, Democrats are for the working man. He was a factory worker like many of the people of our community. My dad lost his life to a rare leukemia caused from daily benzene exposure at Delco. That’s not my personal opinion, it’s recorded as a cause of death on his death certificate. He raised us 4 kids working in that plant after my mom, Thelma passed from breast cancer at the age of 36. She was one of 12 women in Plant 8, under the age of 40 who passed away from breast cancer in 1974. He remained loyal and trusted a company that slowly poisoned him everyday and took his young wife. He was known for his strong work ethic, character and showing up to help others. Although I don’t remember my mom, she was known for her strong work ethic and character. My dad was a quiet man who avoided confrontation but I’m told my mom would speak out loudly when those she loved were wronged. I like to believe I am made up of the best of both of them. Fifteen years ago when I started investigating and exposing the contamination, I was threatened by the company and told by local government to back off because “GM pays a lot of property taxes to our community”
I’m still here and still advocating for the retirees, workers and now the community in a town that is riddled with years of contamination and agendas that benefit everyone but the people of this community. A big part of the Democratic platform is to advocate for the fair wages and safety of the workers. That’s me. If asking tough questions makes you uncomfortable, you are most likely part of the problem. Please step aside. I’m running as a Democrat for Howard County Council. I’m going to win regardless if I get enough votes.

Let me tell you why..
I am going to continue hold the line for transparency and accountability.
The community needs answers not more backroom deals to create more contamination.

Are there kickbacks or perks ? That’s a legitimate question as our City and County have both been flagged by the state auditor multiple times for no policy being followed to prevent this.

I will continue making noise, asking questions for you. Vote for what I stand for.

Elect Sherry for Howard County Council District 1

01/09/2026

"My name is Sherry Roe. I’m excited to announce that I will be running for Howard County Council District 1 as a Democratic candidate in 2026.

"I was born and raised here in Howard County. We lost my mother, a Delco employee, to breast cancer when I was 8. I was raised by my father who would spend 30 years in the Delco plant, raising his 5 kids. I attended Kokomo Center Schools, and graduated from Haworth in 1984. I married Jim, my high school sweetheart, the following summer. We have been married 39 years, and have raised our five children here in Howard County as well."

"At age 22, I began working at South Side Lumber Co. as Corporate Bookkeeper in the heart of downtown. I also served on the Corporation’s Board of Directors. Over the next 20 years, I would hold that title and then assist with the closing of the business and books in 2008. I was accepted into the nursing program at Ivy Tech. I would end up withdrawing to care for my father, who had contracted a rare leukemia from exposure to benzene at Delco. I graduated from Ivy Tech in 2011 with an Associates degree in General Studies, and went on to study health and environmental science at IUK. "

"I worked a short time at Community Howard as a tech while in school. I’ve spent the last 12 years working the clinical side of Hospice as a Certified Hospice Palliative Nursing Assistant at Guardian Angel Hospice. I’ve served on the board for Guardian Angel Hospice’s Community Foundation, and volunteered yearly at the Vietnam Veterans Reunion."

"Since the death of my father in 2009, I’ve also became an environmental activist and voice for the many retirees from Delco who have fought or succumbed to cancers and diseases caused by years of unsafe exposure to chemicals in the local plants . That work led me to publish my book, Profits Over People. It tells the story of my parents, and gives a voice to the workers by also telling their stories of unsafe exposure to chemicals and illegal dumping . I’ve also spent the last decade researching and uncovering contamination in our town that has been covered up. My decade of research has caught the attention and respect of environmental attorneys from across the U.S., and led me to assisting them as an environmental investigator. I volunteer with environmental justice and citizens action coalition groups across Indiana, canvassing door to door in communities riddled with cancer and contamination because of corporate greed and cover up. Most recently an environmental anthropologist, Dr. Jennifer Johnson, added my research and book to the curriculum at Michigan State University for her classes to study. This will open the door to a long path of making our community a safe place to live through testing and grants."

"As your democratic candidate for County Council District 1, I have no political experience in my resume, but that may well prove to be my biggest asset. I’ve earned the respect of my colleagues and peers as being a person who shows up and advocates for the people, speaks loudly about issues that affect the health and sustainability of people and their communities. Howard County has many important issues besides environmental. I’m qualified to be your candidate because I am one of you. I’m running for County Council for you and I, the people of this community, to bring accountability and transparency, offer a new keen eye for opportunities and creative solutions for all issues at hand, that will make Kokomo a safer and better place to live, work, and raise a family. Most importantly, I’m running for County Council District 1, so you and I have a voice. Please support me at the polls."
