Chief Tony Jay Crisp and members of the Maryville Fire Department would like to extend our thanks to the Maryville Lions Club for their donation of Emergency Preparedness Go-Kits.

These kits are designed to help individuals and families be better prepared during emergencies and contain essential supplies, including a blanket, first aid kit, hand-crank emergency radio, water filtration straw, hygiene items, important document pouch, N95 masks, waterproof matches, and many other practical resources.

Chief Crisp and the Maryville Police Department would like to remind everybody of current scams that have been resurfacing.

Several citizens have called in during the last few days and reported that someone has called them and identified themselves as an officer with a local law enforcement agency demanding payment over the phone for a missed court date. The scammer has tried to pressure or coerce the citizen into making a payment over the phone and threatening them with arrest if they don’t.

* The simplest advice we can give is if the call seems suspicious, hang up and call the actual number for that law enforcement agency. No law enforcement agency will ever ask or require for payment by phone or using gift cards.

* These scammers sometimes use technology that allows them to “spoof” or alter the name showing on the Caller ID to make it appear that the call is coming from a local law enforcement agency. So don't always trust your caller id!

* The callers identify themselves as a member of a law enforcement or government agency demanding payment by threat or coercion, just hang up. Under no circumstances should you engage them in conversation or provide any personal information.

* Neither the Maryville Police Department nor any other law enforcement agency will ever call you to demand payment and/or threaten arrest for any matter.

Congratulations to the newest graduates of the Maryville Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy! 🎓🚔

Last week, Chief Tony Jay Crisp had the honor of presenting certificates to participants who successfully completed the program. Throughout the academy, attendees gained a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement operations and the daily work of our officers.

We appreciate each participant for their enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment to building stronger connections within our community! Thank you for being part of this experience, and congratulations again to all of our graduates!

DOWNTOWN ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE

Thursday, May 28th, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 11:00 PM

On Thursday, May 28th, the Maryville Police Department will close several downtown streets for for Smoky Mountain Hog Rally event.

Beginning at 4:00 p.m., the following streets downtown will be closed:
• E. Broadway Ave. from Cates St. to Patton St.
• College St. from E. Harper Ave. to E. Broadway Ave.
• N. Court St. from E. Harper Ave. to E. Broadway Ave.
• Cusick St. from E. Harper Ave. to E. Church Ave.

ONLY motorcycle traffic will be allowed eastbound on E. Broadway Ave. during this time.

All roads are expected to reopen at approximately 11:00 p.m.

Chief Tony Jay Crisp and the Maryville Fire Department would like to congratulate Jacob Humes on his promotion to Firefighter Engineer with the department. Since beginning his career in September of 2023, Jacob has been an exemplary employee and has worked hard throughout the promotion process.

To become a Firefighter Engineer, each employee must complete a total of 120 hours through the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy in aerial operations and pump operations training. After completing those requirements, employees must then return to the department and successfully complete an additional 240 hours of on the job training before being promoted.

Congratulations to you, Jacob, and thank you for your continued commitment to the City of Maryville.

Yesterday, Chief Tony Jay Crisp had the honor of presenting the Maryville Police Department Citizen Service Award to Daniel Varady, Megan Herrera, and Stephanie Paul (who was unable to attend) for their extraordinary actions on November 14, 2025.

While assisting at the scene of a serious accident involving Field Training Officer Justin Brown during the es**rt of Vice President J.D. Vance, these individuals immediately rushed to Officer Brown’s aid without hesitation. Through their quick response, life-saving efforts, and compassionate support, they played a critical role in helping save Officer Brown’s life.

The Citizen Service Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate selfless actions, courage, and compassion during times of emergency or crisis. Daniel, Megan, and Stephanie exemplified the very best of our community by putting the well-being of others before themselves.

We are also deeply grateful for the many others who stopped to help but could not be identified. Your willingness to step forward in a moment of need speaks volumes about the strength and character of this community.

Their actions reflect great credit upon themselves and serve as an example of the compassion, courage, and servant spirit that make Maryville such a special place to live.
