As wedding season gets underway, we want to remind couples that you can complete your marriage license application online before coming to the Blount County Clerk’s Office.

Completing the application ahead of time will help decrease the amount of time you spend at our office when you arrive to obtain your marriage license.

*Official Notice*

All Blount County Clerk locations will be closed to the public on Monday August 31, 2026. There will be a scheduled County Clerk audit by the Tennessee Comptroller's Office due to the transition from our retiring County Clerk to our newly elected County Clerk.

All locations will resume normal hours on Tuesday September 1, 2026.

UPDATE: THE DRIVE THRU WILL BE CLOSED THE REST OF THIS WEEK THROUGH FRIDAY AUGUST 14.

Please help us get the word out:

Due to major construction repairs and heavy equipment being in use, the DRIVE THRU location will be closed:
AUGUST 10th through AUGUST 12th.

The Courthouse and Mall offices will not be impacted and will be open on our regular schedule.

As of 8am on Thursday May 28, the State of Tennessee has a system outage for vehicle registration of vehicles.

We can still renew tags (your plate sticker) and handicap placards.

PRECIOUS CARGO DESIGNATION
This is a reminder and brief description of a Tennessee policy that allows certain drivers (or their caregivers) to request a special designation in the state’s vehicle registration system to alert first responders.

Who can request it:
- A vehicle owner or lessee who has difficulty with expressive language or communication.
- Someone who may need help interacting with first responders (like police)
- Someone who may need help exiting a vehicle during a stop or welfare check
- A parent, guardian, or conservator of a person with these needs who might be driving the vehicle

When it can be requested:
- When first applying for vehicle registration
- Or when renewing registration

What it does:
- Adds a designation (flag) in the Tennessee Vehicle Title and Registration System (VTRS)

Why it matters:
- It alerts first responders that the driver may need extra assistance or different communication approaches
- Helps improve safety and understanding during traffic stops or emergencies

In short, it’s an optional system designed to help law enforcement and emergency personnel respond more appropriately to individuals who may have communication or mobility challenges.
