Small Libraries Can Have a Big Impact
Kittitas may be a small community, but small communities deserve strong libraries too.

In fact, rural libraries can be especially important because residents often have fewer nearby educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities.

Our library can become a center for much more than books.
We can continue developing:
• Early-learning and preschool programs
• Children's story-time and crafts
• Summer reading activities
• Homeschool resources
• Senior activities
• Community information
• Seed and gardening programs
• Local history collections
• Book clubs
• Technology assistance
• Family activities
• Author visits and special presentations

The possibilities are tremendous—but they depend upon participation.

Five Ways You Can Help This Month & Beyond

1. Get a library card.
If you live in Kittitas and do not have one, this is one of the most important things you can do.

2. Use your library.
Come in, browse the shelves, check something out, attend an activity, and bring someone with you.

3. Become a Friend.
The Friends organization needs people with many different talents. There is a place for almost everyone.

4. Support the library financially.
Large donations are wonderful, but small donations collectively make an enormous difference.

5. Tell our story.
Tell your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and local businesses why having a library in Kittitas matters.

Be sure to mark your calendars as the Kittitas Gilmour Memorial Library is hosting a "Grand Opening" on Saturday, August 29th from 1 pm - 4 pm. Come check us out!

To the City of Kittitas Library Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Kittitas Gilmour Memorial Library,

I want to take a moment to say thank you for the incredible dedication, energy, and heart you continue to give to our library and our community.

I am truly excited about what we are accomplishing together. Each of you brings something special to this effort, and it means so much to see people working so hard because they genuinely care about the future of our library and the people we serve.

Your willingness to volunteer your time, share ideas, solve problems, support programs, advocate for the library, and step forward when something needs to be done demonstrates the very best of community spirit.

What makes me most proud is the passion and caring hearts behind this work. We may be a small community, but when people come together with a shared purpose, we can accomplish extraordinary things.

Thank you for believing in our library, for believing in our community, and most of all, for believing that the work we are doing today can make a difference for generations to come.

I am honored and excited to be working alongside all of you. Together, we are building more than a library—we are strengthening our community.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Pat Cort

Reflecting on Summer Reading Programs:

As we prepare for Summer Reading in July, I find myself reflecting on the many moments that warm my heart. There is something truly special about seeing the smiles on children's faces, watching their intense expressions as they listen carefully during storytime, and hearing the excitement in their voices when they eagerly answer questions about the stories. The chorus of enthusiastic responses from the children is a wonderful reminder of the impact reading can have.

These moments reassure me that, as a library and as parents, we are doing something right. Together, we are helping foster a love of reading, learning, and imagination. Summer Reading is more than just a program—it is an opportunity to engage young minds, encourage curiosity, and provide food for thought during the summer months. By keeping children connected to books and stories, we help them continue to grow, explore new ideas, and develop skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

I look forward to another summer filled with laughter, learning, and the joy of sharing stories with our community's children. Every book opened is a new adventure, and every child who participates is building a foundation for a lifelong love of reading.

We are continuing to work through the library's transition and apologize for the lengthy delay in completing our move. Over the past several months, we've run into several challenges that have taken more time to resolve.

At this time, we are awaiting completion of the City's IT infrastructure and service setup before we can officially relocate the librarian and begin providing library services at the Catalyst Building. We appreciate the community's patience and understanding during this process and look forward to welcoming everyone to our new location as soon as these final details are in place.

Our donors and patrons are not just supporters—they are partners in our mission. Their generosity provides the foundation that allows our library to grow, evolve, and meet the changing needs of our community. Every gift, large or small, helps ensure that our library remains a vibrant and welcoming place for learning, discovery, and connection. We would not be where we are today without the unwavering support of those who believe in the value of our library and its future.

Thank you for your continued support as we work toward this exciting new chapter for our library.
