Meet the Maker round two. ✌️Hi.👋 I’m Allison, the other half of Fiddlehead Creations (Carrie made me do this 😉), I’m far more comfortable behind the camera so the only photos I could find of myself require cropping others out. 🙈

By day I work in corporate communications, design, and video production on contract at Microsoft. 👩‍💻 By night Fiddlehead Creations, along with my two amazing kiddos, hold my attention. 🌱

Fiddlehead Creations was born over coffee with a long-time friend (Carrie). How could we combine our individual and unique talents into a creative endeavor? The road to where we are now developed from a love of photography, diving deep into patterns designed by nature, and then pushing my graphic design knowledge to create something different from that exploration. Ohhh… and we taught ourselves how to design bags! 💥We’ve learned a lot and our creativity is constantly evolving and changing, which is the beauty of a small business.

I come from a nature loving family. My grandpa was an amazing nature photographer and felt most at home in the mountains. I have fond memories of hiking with him and grandma as a child (photo 3) which I know developed my love of the outdoors and the beauty of Washington state.

I’m a proud Seattle native and UW and Art Institute graduate. I’ve never officially defined my design ethos. 🤔I’ll work on that but today’s thought…Less is More unless More is More and it’s important to know how and when to achieve both. ✨

👋Meet the Maker: Carrie Altman
co-founder 🖊 & nature photographer 📸 & conservation biologist 🌊

“Born in Hawaii, a deep love, respect, and joy for the ocean is my foundation. Add to that, growing up in a family that spent their weekends hiking and camping and you’ve created a woman that channeled that passion into academics and a profession as a marine biologist.

Fast forward a few years, having taken a professional recess to raise my two boys in their infant and toddler years, I found myself pondering how to turn my passions and prior career experience into a business. How do I combine my need to be present for my family, raise awareness for conservation, and explore my love of all things creative, particularly nature photography?

The answer evolved with a meeting of minds and talents. Allison Morton, a lifelong friend, who happens to be a very talented graphic designer, and I spent months experimenting with macro photography and exploring how to translate nature’s beauty into something tangible and purposeful. From there, Fiddlehead Creations was born.

Being part of the continuing evolution of this business brings me great joy and purpose- finding never-ending inspiration from nature, creating products that I can feel good about,
and you can feel good about purchasing. Contributing to a solution and not the problem.
