Throughout North Carolina, the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program seeks to serve the best interests of thousands of children who find themselves the subjects of court cases by assigning them Guardian ad Litem volunteers. A Guardian ad Litem advocate is a trained community volunteer who is appointed, along with a Guardian ad Litem attorney, by a district court judge to investigate and determine the ne

eds of abused and neglected children petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. The North Carolina Guardian ad Litem program is a services division of the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, and a member of the National CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate) Association.

Thank you to everyone who emailed in nominations! We are thrilled to see SO MANY wonderful people in our community making a difference!

Every other Friday, we will be naming a Community Hero of the Week, and today we are excited to recognize our second recipient, Destiny Mchale!

Destiny received SEVERAL nominations, which makes this recognition even more special. And we may be a little biased, because she is one of our very own here at the Dawg House!

Destiny is one of the hardest-working young women we know. She has overcome obstacles that could have easily defined her story, but instead, she has chosen to write her own. She is breaking cycles, defying statistics, and proving that where you come from does not determine where you are going.

We have no doubt that Destiny is going to make a difference in this world, and we could not be more proud of the young woman she has become and the future she is creating for herself.
