The Kinross Township Fire Department will be filling pools in the month of June. Our availability is every Tuesday and Wednesday for the month, with time slots of 10am, 12pm, and 2pm. You must call the Kinross Township Hall to schedule your time and date, their number is 906-495-5381.

July 1st is the last date for pool fills. Thank you!

On 05/09/2026 at 1720 hours the Kinross Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire at the old compost pile in Kinross Township. Kinross Tanker-1 and Kinross Brush-1 responded to the scene with 6 personnel. Crews quickly deployed hose lines and began to extinguish visible flames.

As a reminder, this compost pile is no longer in use and available to the public. The new available compost location is located on fair road.

Press Release:

On 04/30/2026, at approximately 1943 hours, Kinross Fire was dispatched for a smoke investigation in a remote wooded area near M-80 and Gaines Highway. Which led to the discovery of a fully involved cabin fire, prompting assistance from neighboring agencies.

Due to the cabin’s isolated location and limited access, crews coordinated a targeted response using off-road vehicles and portable water equipment to access the scene and establish effective fire suppression.

There were no reported injures and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

We would like to thank Pickford Fire, Rudyard Fire, and Dafter Fire for their rapid response. They also provided manpower, water supply, and overhaul operations on scene. And as always, a huge thank you to Chippewa County Central Dispatch.

04/07/2026

On 04/04/2026, at 2129 hours, the Kinross Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2 Shadow Wood.

When crews arrived on scene, two firefighters entered the structure and encountered flames in the living room area, where they were able to quickly knock down the fire. Following fire suppression, crews began ventilation of the home, followed by overhaul operations to ensure that the fire was out.

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries were reported and 1 cat was rescued from an upstairs bedroom of the structure.

We would like to thank Pickford Fire, Rudyard Fire, and Dafter Fire for their manpower and overhaul operations at the residence. As well as Northern EMS, Chippewa County Central Dispatch, and the Victim Services Unit.
