For those of you with the attention span, here is the story behind how I got here....
When my family moved to Killingworth from Ohio eight years ago, we knew little about Connecticut. With three school-aged sons—one with special needs on an IEP—my priority was finding a district with strong schools and strong support. After months of research and visits across the state, we chose Killingworth.
We fell in love with the town’s beauty and rural charm, but the deciding factor was the quality of its schools. After meeting with special education staff and touring the buildings, I knew my boys would be well cared for and supported here. That has proven true throughout their years at KES, HKIS, HKMS, and HKHS, where they’ve thrived academically, artistically, and socially thanks to dedicated teachers and diverse opportunities.
When my oldest left for UConn in 2022, I returned to my passion of working with youth by becoming a substitute teacher in RSD17. This allowed me to stay close to my own children while connecting with educators, students, and families across the district. The years spent subbing gave me firsthand insight into the culture, strengths, and challenges of all five schools.
After three years serving our schools, I realized my passion had outgrown my position. I stepped back from employment to avoid a conflict of interest and set my sights on running for the Board of Education. This was an intentional and purposeful choice, driven by a desire to serve our district on a greater scale. I now teach middle school math and science at St. John’s in Old Saybrook, a role that has broadened my perspective and strengthened my readiness for board service.
Learning this new role has left me with less time to campaign than I’d hoped. Still, I’m proud of the reputation I’ve built, the choices I’ve made, and the experience I bring.
In this election, you’ll see many familiar names on the ballot—this is a small town with deep roots. While familiarity matters, it shouldn’t be the deciding factor. Character matters. Conduct matters. But qualifications matter most. Too often, candidates are chosen for name recognition or political affiliation rather than proven expertise. Character should complement qualifications—especially when public trust and millions in taxpayer dollars are at stake.
The Board of Education oversees roughly $20 million of the town’s $25 million annual revenue. It’s essential that this responsibility lies with informed, transparent, and accountable leaders.
I will bring the right combination of experience and perspective to the Board. I studied special education, communications, and psychology in college before building a career in healthcare marketing then university development, including grant writing and fundraising. I’ve been a special education parent for two decades and understand the overwhelming complexities of that system. My youngest is a student at HKIS, so I remain personally invested in the health of our district.
I understand education from multiple sides- parent, educator and taxpayer. As a teacher, I see daily the challenges and opportunities in the school environment. Most importantly, I have current, relevant insight into the inner workings of our district, which I’ll use to lead thoughtful discussions and make sound decisions.
Politically, I am unaffiliated. Though endorsed by the KRTC, I do not subscribe to any party. This independence allows me to stay genuinely nonpartisan and focused on what matters most—our students.
I love this community and strive to be deeply involved. You'll find me volunteering at school events, coaching Little League, and connecting with students and families wherever I go.
I made the decision to run for the board with one clear intent: to advocate for schools that are strong, safe, and deeply connected to their students, their families, and the broader community.
Now that you know more about who I am and why I’m running, I hope you’ll consider trusting me with your vote for the two-year seat on the Killingworth Board of Education.
