As a proud former AFSCME member, I know that our unions do so much to ensure workers across our region have the right to organize and advocate, are paid fairly, and have safe working conditions. Jean Shine will be sorely missed and was a heart of the Bell County community. Jean and her family have always been kind to our community, helping support scholarships at Central Texas College and through other community causes like AUSA where I had the honor to serve with her. She has always been a supporter of veterans, our businesses, and an all-around great person to know.

Remembering Jean Shine — A True Fort Hood Good Neighbor

Today, we mourn the loss of Jean Shine, a remarkable Central Texas leader whose life reflected service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to Fort Hood Soldiers, military families, veterans, and the community.

Named a Fort Hood Good Neighbor in 2001, Jean became a trusted bridge between The Great Place and Central Texas. As a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, she was a steadfast advocate for Soldiers and their families.

Her service extended beyond Fort Hood. Through Wreaths for Vets and the Friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Jean helped build an enduring tradition of honoring our fallen and bringing the community together in remembrance.

Jean embodied the very best of the Army and epitomized the spirit of why Fort Hood is the Great Place.

Our deepest condolences are with the Shine family and all who knew her.

Rest well, Jean. Your legacy lives on.
