🦋 Our inspiration: Baylor Cain
With many new followers, we want to share a little history of how Creekside Camp began and the story of our committee chair, Anna and her family.
Baylor was born in 2016 and, just a few weeks later, was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a genetic condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and can affect the muscles needed for breathing, eating, crawling and walking.
Baylor had the most severe form of SMA. At the time, the treatments available today weren’t yet available to him. He passed away at just three months old from complications related to SMA.
Anna began taking Baylor’s younger brothers, Taysom and Tucker, to all abilities playgrounds in his memory. Many affected by SMA have various disabilities, including the possibility of being a wheelchair user.
Through those visits, Anna taught her sons something bigger than play: empathy, acceptance, and that every child deserves the opportunity to play alongside everyone else.
And that’s when the dream for something right here at home began.
Anna brought together a group of moms who believed in the same vision. Together, they received a grant from Unlimited Play and began the journey off Creekside Camp All Abilities Playground.
And today, that dream is becoming REAL. 🦋
✨ The equipment has been purchased.
✨ More than $1 million has been raised.
✨ And we are just $150,000 away from being fully funded.
