UPDATE (9:05 p.m.): The ramps have reopened.
JUST IN (5:15 p.m.): The exit ramps off Highway 22 North onto U.S. 51 North (the ramps toward South Fulton just outside the Union City city limits) are closed due to an accident about 4:15 p.m. involving an overturned rig and spilled chicken parts.
County and state law enforcement, Union City fire personnel and wrecker crews are working amid 100-degree heat to secure and clear the area.
Motorists should avoid the area for several hours, according to Obion County EMA director Danny Carr.

Prayers for our Brothers at Samburg-Reelfoot Volunteer Fire Department. They lost a tanker apparatus in a rollover accident today responding to a fire in Obion County. Also at least one FF was injured and airlifted out. Things happen fast guys, stay on your toes at all times, rather on the fire scene or in the truck!

The idea behind the iPhone crash alert is good, and in practice it can be a good thing. But it is also responsible for lots of false alarms.

If your phone happens to get triggered because you dropped it or slammed on your brakes (hey, it happens), cancel the alert if you can. If you can't, 911 will be on the line. Just tell them it was a mistake and that there's no emergency. If you disconnect, 911 may call you back. If everything is OK, let them know and there's no harm done. That way, police, fire, and EMS won't have to search for a phantom emergency.
