One unexpected condition that can impact water flowing through water mains serving our residences is……………air.

Water mains are not typically full of water and therefore there is air present. Air can build up in water mains, especially at high points, to the point that an air lock can occur. An air lock can result in pressure loss and even stop the flow of water.

A fairly easy way to prevent this is with an air vac. These components “burp” air when pressure builds to maintain good water flow.

Our employees recently installed a new air vac. One of the many jobs they do to keep our water system running smooth! Plus, who doesn’t enjoy a good burp!

The first week in November the district began an additional treatment process at Well #9 to reduce the sulfur taste and odor from this source. We have been working on this project since 2018 with the Department of Health and a local engineering firm which specializes in water chemistry. We are proud to say that there is a substantial reduction in the taste and odor from this source. Many hours went into this project, and we call it a success. I am thankful for our dedicated staff and some of the best water chemistry engineers in the world.

Congratulations to our Hydrant Hysteria team, Wes, Connor and Coach Jeff, winning the Pacific Northwest District competition!

They were on fire (pun intended) assembling the hydrant in 1 minute 18 seconds. That’s 41 seconds faster than their last competition!

With the win, they will now head to the American Water Works Association National competition in June to compete against teams from all over the country. Go team!!
